A funny story..............

I just have to share this story about my 22 year old son, Zac. Here in southern Texas we can plant our gardens fairly early compared to the rest of the country. My husband and I were gone for 2 weeks and I had given Zac instructions of watering the garden, one end then the other, every other day, etc. When we returned the garden looked great, lots of greenery (and weeds) everything was blooming, tomatoes, potatoes, zucchini was up on the mound, onions too. Anyway, I asked Zac to go till the garden telling him to in between the plants and in between the rows. He went out and tilled. He then went to hang out with friends. I went out to see his tilling job. Lo and behold he had tilled the whole garden, tilled everything into the dirt, no more plants, nothing!!! Oh my gosh, I was furious and was close to tears. I kept wondering what on earth got into him! I couldn't figure it out, I thought maybe he'd had a brain freeze or a stroke or something! This is a kid who is going to night school while working 40+ hours a week, he's not stupid, or at least I don't think so! My husband thinks he did it on purpose so he wouldn't have to mess with it anymore. I just don't think so. I called him on his cell and asked him what the heck???? He said when he asked me if I wanted it tilled like the last time I said yes, which I did. The last time he tilled was when I was getting the garden READY to plant! I asked him why he thought he was supposed to till under everything he'd been watering for 2 weeks and there was just silence on the other end of the line. Well, he didn't come home until late and I was in bed. By the next morning it was laughable. So, last night Zac raked, replanted and watered the new garden. He was so apologetic and felt so bad (and stupid) I could only laugh at the whole thing. At 22 I remember doing some pretty stupid things that at the time seemed totally logical. So, there's my Saturday story. Gotta love him!

I had the same thing with our son, at that time 19 years old. He also tilled the garden and I had to replant all my strawberries. That year we didn't get any strawberries. And he never had to help in the garden after that. Nowadays he calls and asked me to advise him on how to plant and water his garden. Funny isn't it?

several years ago, in May, I left for the day, and my daughter who had been complaining about the over grown front yard flower bed, asked before I left if she and her friends could weed, I was beaming when I left thinking what a thoughtful child I had raised. I came home and she had pulled up Hostas, peonies, my bulb leaves, my clematis and guess what she left? the weeds, I could have cried, but thank goodness all of what she had pulled up came back the next spring, and i have never taken her up on her offers to weed again.

I have my own son's planting story, the spring between his Jr. and Sr. year in high school my brother helped him get a job with a local landscaper. Being the new guy they took him to a job they had just finished planting two weeks before and instructed him to weed the whole area. YUP you guessed it, he too, pulled up everything they had planted. I guess they all do something like that once.

One of my old flames told me a story of when he got a job at a dime store (olden days huh?) working in the "pet" department. He was told to clean all the perches with a wire brush. The manager left and came back just as my friend was just finishing cleaning the last bird's feet with the wire brush! Poor birds!

These are too funny!
I thought I'd help my sister weed when she was so sick (2 years ago so I was no Spring Chicken!). I weed my own garden and flower beds and lo and behold, I pulled just about every one of her poppies out of the ground - the very ones I gifted her with a few years before. (They do look like huge dandelion weeds, ya know). I have since replaced them from a very kind lady who has hundreds of them and is always looking to thin out her beds.

For my own flower beds, unless they have an actual dandelion flower on them that's completely dead - I do love the yellow color of them - I don't pull alot of the weeds until I know for sure it won't give me any pretty flowers. Alot of them have turned into gorgeous little pops of color throughout the beds.

My husband and I got a big laugh out of that story, I never tell even my husband to weed my gardens LOL I know what will happen.

That sounds really wise. I never did that too. Tried only once with our son.

These stories are so funny. I've been know to weed out my own flowers. Last year the garden by our door got so overgrown but i didn't dare do anything about it because I didn't know what was weed and what was just flowers gone by.

Got to keep a close eye on my DH when he's weed wacking though!
