    It's Wednesday again

Good morning folks. I see Blondie is not here yet this morning. Maybe she snowed in.

I just read about the weather happening in Atlanta. WOW! It certainly has been a crazy winter for sure. It was only -20C -4F this morning. Another work day, but I do have it pretty easy. When I got there yesterday, the mail had been distributed for me. The only problem I have is the animals. Two cats and now a little dog. My allergies really kicked in. Today I will bring medication with me. My eyes were so bothered I went to bed early last night.

I posted a video of an amazing couple and their son. They are locals here, my son went to school with them. If you have a chance, have a look at the video, it is a little long but will be worth it. Try and stay dry-eyed if you can. And thanks for watching.

Have a wonderful day everyone. Those who are stuck in the snow, stay home today and enjoy your day off.
Blessed are the children of the piecemakers for they shall inherit the quilts!

      Re: It's Wednesday again

Morning all, well we got some more snow last night and the world outside my window sure does look pretty! Not sure yet what my plans for the day will be, I was supposed to go to my niece's for lunch today so it depends on how well the roads are. I have said all week I want to get some sewing done but I just can't get motivated enough to do it. Hopefully this slump will pass, the ideas are swimming in my head but aren't getting created.
Off to get my coffee going, my ferral cats will be coming to the door soon looking for their breakfast so I better hop to it they don't like to be kept waiting! Hugs to all who could use some extra today, stay warm and be safe in this weather.

          Re: It's Wednesday again

Snowed last night to make a nice white blanket over everything as old snow was looking kind of dingy. Still it is very cold and the road looks icy. DH's morning college class wasn't cancelled so he'll be off soon. I'm staying put as I received my M* order of layer cake, jelly rolls and charm packs yesterday so I'll be playing with them later.

First I need to finish putting some stuff away, where does all this stuff come from? Books, clothes, gift boxes, all needing a place to go but every spot is already filled up. I have lots of old sweats and cotton knit pants that I wear as pj's and house clothes and I think they outnumber my 'good' stuff, Instead of finding a place for the old stuff I should just toss them.

My new boots are supposed to be delivered today, hope they fit as I've searched all over the internet and found only one pair left in my size, all sizes 8 to 9 are all gone in the boots I want. Had ordered earlier this winter from FootSmart but somehow that order never got filled, ordered from Amazon and that pair never came. Somehow they got returned and Amazon credited my credit card. What (?) Maybe they went to the wrong address. At least there were no shipping charge.

            Re: It's Wednesday again

Well, Atlanta made the news and not in a good way!

Many dumb school districts didn't call a Snow Day. Then called parents at 10:30 and said school's closing at 120, as it started snowing in most areas of Atlanta around 8 continuously. At first I'm "Yea, it's beautiful!"

Kat left at 11 to pick up Zander, 10 miles away, less than 1 mile away from home, there was already a back up on an incline/bend. No way to make an U-turn, ditch on both side. I can't get to her, as road is closed from my direction. Time goes by, 1 hour, 2, 3, Oliver and Penny, have no food, drink, a fire truck shows up to tow one of 3 stuck school busses. No cops, no county workers, nothing. Finally after 5, (6 hours Kat's been on the road) a county worker shows up trying to get cars turned around 5* at a time, 'till they are 180* to go back down hill, Kat is 170* off to the side and by now nothing but black ice and can't get any traction. Neither can the cars ahead of her and they are sliding into each other. I told her to abandon the new van and get home before dark, it's insured and get home before dark. Zander would have to sleep at the school with the other kids unless Matt or Don could find a way to get there. She has no choice but to wrap Penny up in a blanket, carry her and walk with Ollie. Hope that Ollie would think it was a fun thing to walk in SNOW. An older gentleman was walking her way and kindly offered to carry Ollie, which was wonderful! Then a little further, a father and daughter team had a huge ATV that held 8, a man got off so that Kat and the gentle man could get on with the kids, they drove them home! TG for good people. It was after 6 pm before Kat and the kids got inside the house. What a horrible day!

Don tried to drive a lady home, had to give up after 3 hours, came back to the Enterprise office, found out she lives near our house. He took his car, they took bathroom breaks, got water and snacks. He would take her home and then just come home versus trying to drive back to clock out. Two hours to go 15 miles...but the lady was happy to finally make it home, well actually it was 5 hours for her! lol

Matt left his office DT Atlanta at 1 pm by 8 pm - he had made it 2 miles from his office! Not even to the 75 Freeway. No chance he was getting Zander. Scott, his SF, was stuck in our area. Karen's car won't make it down all the hills (his mom). Opa Don is not letting his Buddy Boy Zander sleep at the school without trying to get him. Off he goes...3 routes are closed and luckily one of the fathers gets some of the kids out beyond the "closed zone" (of course if parents authorization calls). He met up with him and got Zan, brought him to our house at 8:50! Had to spend the night with us, the road is closed both directions to Kat's house.

Meanwhile, Scott had to abandon his car 3 miles from Kat's house, walk with a bunch of other people in the cold, slipping and sliding. He got there at 9:50, poor guy. It would have been another 3 miles up some major hills to get to their place. Not happening of course.

By 8 am this morning, Matt has made it to 4 miles from his office! Still not on the 75!! Folks are stranded every where. No rooms at motels/hotels! Cars/Trucks stranded on the freeway. Hardly any police/county workers any where. We're not use to city/government agencies not ready for natural disasters, coming from Calif/Hawaii. It's just unbelievable that 2-3 inches of snow...that they knew was coming...can bring a city to a standstill!

Matt has been in his car for 20 hours...We pray for his safe and that he can get out of the gridlock.

Prayers for all that are in this horrible snow nightmare.

Ruby, I pray that everyone gets home safely. It gives a new definition to Winter! Wish I was there to help but I would most likely end up in a ditch again.

                Re: It's Wednesday again

Oh, Ruby! I can't even imagine your anxiety level watching your loved ones out there in that nightmare. What a mess! I'm glad the grandkids got home, but poor Matt! It only took my SIL 9 hours to get home. DD put a drink in his hand and he was texting the boss as he walked in, not coming in tomorrow! Ha, can you imagine that? Since Atlanta is a financial hub as well as an air hub, I can just imagine what worldwide implications this 2" snowfall might have. Hope you see Matt sometime soon.

My next door neighbors were in Atlanta and were due to fly out yesterday afternoon. They changed their reservations to a morning flight and are they glad they did, or they'd probably still be on the road to the airport.

Still waiting for my missing package from MSQC, Becky from MSQC is sleuthing out the problem. Hope they find it soon, as tempus fugit till my deadline. In the meantime, I'm working on some Xs and Os blocks, thanks to Karen sending me some fabric, got them sewn, now I need to press ( TO THE DARK SIDE) them open and square up in anticipation of getting the rest of the fabric.

Hope you all have a great day! Keep warm! Or cool if you are an Aussie!

Yikes ruby! That's quite a day! Sadly the south doesnt have the salt or plows to deal with the mess. Then add in the panic of needing it get home before it gets bad...can't imagine your worry and frustration. Glad to hear all are safe!

                      Good morning everyone.

Ruby........I was wondering about your family after I saw the news about Atlanta this morning........what a mess. Sure hope Matt gets home soon. Are you'll still in contact with him?

The ice conditions in our area were handled well and people stayed off the roads yesterday. This past Friday was a little worse but the area officials kept one bridge closed all day yesterday so they could devote attention to keeping the other bridge passable. There were a lot of crashes on Friday but hardly any yesterday.

                      Hurry up springtime!

                        Dear friends,

Matt has been on the road 20 hours, 20 minutes now, just over 4 miles from his office...still not on the 75 freeway.

He posted this photo on FB - Stuck with the other commuters in ICE. Until the sun gets hot enough to melt that ice to slush, who knows how long it will before they can inch ahead.

                        Matt - 4 mile mark - 2013 01 28 and 29.jpg

He said that his direct boss made it to his "Ex-wife's house", that's how desperate people are! lol

Don's work called and said Enterprise is closed as people can't pick up and go to their destinations. He'll try to scout the road to see if he can get to Kat's to pick up Scott and see if they can make it up the hill to Scott's home.

Poor Zander just got the stomach flu, so it's a good thing we got him home last night. Can't imagine him being this sick at school.

I feel for all the children stuck throughout Atlanta in schools - they have no idea yet when they will be able to get them home to their parents per the news.

                          Re: It's Wednesday again

                          Ugh! That looks just horrible!
We were watching the news last night and saw how they were applying sand to the roads. I have never seen sand applied that thickly before. I guess they were hoping that with 3 or 4 inches the cars could break through the ice/snow and find traction below. Sadly all of the sand in the county may have been applied to that single bridge though.
I'd say we'd send you a few of our salt & sand trucks, but probably by the time they arrived it wouldn't do any good. Now, if we could get the AFB to load them up on one of those big planes, hop them down let them do their thing, and then hop them back home, that might be a good training run. They do enough touch & go runs out here over the city, they ought to give this a try instead of just flying in circles.
I hope your family makes it home soon! Remember that kitty litter helps with traction.
                          Hugs, Cathy

Oh my goodness, that's just crazy! About 10 years ago we had a snow storm that dumped about 12 inches of snow on the 23 of December in about 3 hours...it my DH 8 hours to get 10 miles. The road he was on they shut down and if you were on it...too bad. We thought that was bad...goodness...poor Matt

Oh Ruby, that's awful. You must be so worried. I hope you're all back in the house now and warm and dry. I'm fortunate that my sons Alex and Lawrence only have about 2.5 miles to walk to school so they can get home no matter what the weather is. The Gulf Stream keeps us warm here in Weston Point, England. I've only just begun to realise what a difference it makes.
