    Need critter forensics!

    image.jpg

Something ATE my swing cushion! Any ideas? It/they left the single chair cushions alone, and went for the three seater swing. The cushion is one unit, so it's like six cushions ruined. This is on my covered front porch. Takes a lotta nerve!

I would guess rodent of some kind. Mouse, or rat. Could be a possum or a raccoon. Something is building a nest nearby...that would be my biggest concern.

It may have been a squirrel. We had one that chewed off the flannel backing on our bbq cover and left a bunch of holes. Assumed it was padding its nest. He scared the crap out of me one day when I saw the cover moving and lifted it. There he was big as life. I don't know who was more freaked out..him or I.

Ewwww! I haven't seen a rat, but I had a mouse in the attic recently. I filled all the holes in the roots of the 50-year-old oak tree to keep rodents from building strongholds. I know the rats are out there, but I was hoping they stayed deep in the city.

I'm okay with a squirrel, sort of. They sit on the railing and make fun of my dog. I didn't think a squirrel wanted more than nuts. I have a huge amount of squirrels in my yard, probably because of the big old trees.

I had squirrels come on my porch one year and tore the heck out of my goose's Christmas out fit. They use the stuffing for their nest .

I'm thinking some critter heard that the polar vortex is making a bit of a comeback and thought"I'd better go get something to make my nest warmer."

We had to quit putting strands of Christmas lights on our bushes in front of our house because the squirrels kept chewing the plugs off the ends.

I'm thinking it was a squirrel too. I've seen squirrels get into all kinds of stuff in my yard.

We bought a really nice large glider swing ($350) one year. Not even 2 days after setting it up in our back yard, I happened to glance out the bathroom window and saw a squirrel tearing up one of the seat back cushions! I yelled at it thru the window and he stopped and looked at me then returned to his act of destruction. I tore out the back door and the furry vandal ran when I got close. That's when I saw that little devil had chewed up the top of all three back cushions! I just went to Joann's and got a complimenting out door fabric and made simple covers that slid onto the back cushions. . .and I didn't leave the cushions on the swing unsupervised again!!!

Did anyone spill something on that cushion?

I remember one time my dog went after something one of the kids had handled with greasy french fry hands.

I am guessing squirrel as well. Those bushy tree rats love to destroy stuff.

Sorry they messed up your cushion. That looks like it is a little beyond "just flip the cushion over and no one will notice".
