    How to needle punch????

I know this may sound strange, but, I have seen all the posts on Golden Threads Paper and quilting, etc...and I have tried and tried to "stitch" without thread to punch a pattern to quilt to no avail! My machine just won't do it unless it's operator error. It just stops and tells me to rethread. I took out the bobbin, unthreaded the needle, put the bobbin back in, threaded the needle..LOL..you can see where I'm going with this. I just can't get it to stitch without thread. I know there must be a way but I sure haven't found it. Help would be sooooooooooooooo appreciated. Every video I've seen makes it look really easy..how do they do it???
    Thanks in advance..

I think it really depends on the machine you have. I have a Viking and it won't let me sew with the thread and bobbin in place. DRATS!

I have an ANCIENT Bernina. It's electronic, & it sews just fine with or without thread. I wonder if when the computer in yours senses
"no thread" kinda like "insert disc", maybe you can find a way to "fool it" into "seeing" thread? I have never tried needle punch, but I
like to practice new fmq designs with an old needle & no thread on paper. I am shopping for a new machine, & I'm thinkin that now I need to pay attention to that feature on the new machines. Thanks for the heads up!
If at first you DO succeed, try not to look so surprised.

I've been trying to fool it all day, and I guess it's to smart for me. I called the dealer and I might as well talked to the cat. I could not for the life of me explain why I wanted to sew without thread to the ditz I was talking to. Must be a temp or something and no one else I could talk to. I'm hoping someone with a Janome will jump in and tell me there is no way or oh ya, you do it like this. LOL
