I Know What I Was Doing 39 Years Ago Today!

    Getting Married!

    WEDDING PIC 1 LO RES.jpg

I was 18 years old, spent $60 on material to make my wedding dress and veil, and got married in my parent's home...the home I grew up in! Can't believe it's been 39 years!

Happy Anniversary! Look at those young faces, never even beginning to think of what 39 years together would feel like. Is it gauche to ask why he is on crutches?

Sure hope you have 39 more years of happiness.

Blondie, my husband caught polio in 1952 when he was 5 years old. He had just gone to kindergarten one week when he came down sick. He was in an iron lung for a time and they thought he wasn't going to pull through. But he did...and went on to be valedictorian of his senior class of more than 800 students.

He wanted to be a doctor but was told by his high school counselor it was not possible due to his disability..so he went to college anyway and got a Masters in physics and began working with McDonnell Douglas. I first met my husband at church when I was 10 years old and he was 16, but we did not get to know each other until years later when we both became members of a Christian singing group.

We got married, he decided he COULD be a doctor so when he got accepted into medical school I decided to be a nurse and we both went to college together and graduated together. All these years have passed and we find age creeping up on us. He struggles with post-polio syndrome and has been wheelchair bound since the 80's. Still he amazes me with his "Can Do" attitude and independent spirit. He is a brilliant guy, funny, loving and my best friend!

I am hoping for many more years also! I can hardly remember life without him...
