    Thursday, Feb 3

    Good Morning Ladies
I had to check three times to make sure whether it was Wed or Thursday. Doesn't take much to make me confused.

Lynn, thanks for checking in with us. My world geography is so terrible; I do remember you saying you were in the southern region; thankfully you will be spared. Quite a scarey ordeal to think it was worse than Katrina. Good thing it hit mostly scarce populated areas. I have other online friends from Down Under that I am waiting to hear from as well.

Patti and other snow/ice blizzard recipients. I understand that you will all be required to get out and about today; no excuses. Man alive, you are some truly hardy folk! One news station said that public transportation would be moving back to normal. How is that possible? I saw those pics of Lakeshore. Did they get it all cleared? Can't believe the secondary and side roads are safe. If so, please have your authorities contact NYC for future reference. I am certain that the Mayor would appreciate it. hehe

Thought I had 17 blocks made Jan - turned out to be 15. I have a few more to go to be able to say it is a decent bed quilt. Will be bringing the blocks in to the salon on Sat for one of the sister's to see.

Make it a great day, ladies.

Yep definitely Thursday here Blondie, for a couple more hours at least.

It's a little sobering to think that Australia is roughly the same size as the US and that the cyclone has moved from one edge to nearly the centre in just over a day so while that is only two states here it would have traversed probably half a dozen states of the US. But is so massive that it would have affected around 25% of the land area, the satellite photos are truly awesome. The difference is that, property and crop damage aside Yasi has not had the human cost that Katrina caused. And the geography played a large part in that as did being prepared and there being no major cities in it's path, we have been very fortunate.

Now what did I say about having nice cup of tea and a chat with Mother Nature. It seems to me that many of your states are having more than their share of grief at the opposite end of the weather scale with all this snow and ice. I wish someone had some answers as to why this is all happening.

Take care everyone and have a good day.
    Lynn

Lynn - so pleased that you are safe. I was reading some reports on CNN news feed about some of the devastation. I hope Mother Nature communes with you over your cup of tea, and shares what's happening.

Blondie - Love the lamb and crow you have greeting us this morning. I have a collection of sheep and also quite a few crows adorning (gathering dust) my kitchen and other flat surfaces throughout the house.

Just heard a thump somewhere outside so DH is out checking things out. I think it was a bunch of snow falling from the eaves. We looked out the window here and there is a 'drift' hanging from the gutters at least 15 - 18 inches. I passed my camera to him - will see if I can get a picture up. Yesterday we heard noise and saw our DSIL was in our driveway shoveling snow . . . I think I had mentioned our driveway is 1/4 mile long - but hubby assures me it is only about 1/10th of a mile - but Donald shoveled the WHOLE thing!!!!!!! I just couldn't believe it. Guess you can do things like that if you are young . . . and what . . .??

Finished tia Paz's lap quilt except for tucking the corners of the binding. Hopefully I will get that done and have DH take it to the PO today. Worked on my MIL's lap quilt yesterday and then started wrapping some more fabric. I find that is so relaxing for me, and it really looks good once it is back on the racks.

My mind has been churning coming up with patterns for quilts for the granddaughters. Think I will start with the younger ones first. Zoe's quilt (2) will probably be done in primary colors and I think I will use the alternate circles . . . but I can't remember the name of the pattern so I can double-check the way it is done. If anyone reads this and knows what my evasive description means, please give me a clue.

I think Rita's quilt will be done in 'kiddie prints' and will be a disappearing 9 patch. Emily's quilt - as I'm feeling now - will be similar to a stack and whack. Haven't thought much beyond that, so who knows what the other three/four may be. Gotta get busy 'shopping' in my stash.

I hope everyone is safe and sound, warm and cozy, happy and busy, well fed and covered in quilts or quilt pieces.

          Hi all!
Made it into work today but wow, what alot of snow!! The roads are plowed but getting out of our complex was another thing! They have plowed a single lane but there is just no place to put the snow so there are huge piles everywhere. My BF did not want me to try to navigate the mess so he drove me to the train station.
Lots of the cars that were towed off of Lake Shore Drive are parked along the streets around the mall. They look so sad. They are slowly getting Michigan Avenue back to normal but it will take them awhile to get all the snow out of here. The trains are operating on a "who knows when" schedule. This morning my train announced it would express into the city after a few more than normal stops, but then it announced that it would make lots more stops. I didn't care as long as I got in here!!
I did take some unbelievablle video with my phone when we were out in it trying to get home, can't believe the power of the wind! Plus the effect of thunder and lightning when it is snowing heavily is very eerie!
Nothing here is as bad as a cyclone tho!! I can't even imagine how scary that would be.
Well back to work! So excited to only have today and tomorrow and then I will be on vacation!
See ya later if the Lord is willing and the creek don't rise!

Good morning ladies. We made it through the blizzard and kept on our power! Praises! We stayed in and ate all my prepared food! Hubby plowed driveway and gravel road to highway yesterday, well, he tried. After about 3 hours, he had to quit and used the 4WD to go across a field! Within 15 minutes, a huge piece of road equipment was out there working the same spot......for another 2 hours! I think we can get in and out now....one lane....and a little rough, but passable with 4WD! I am guessing we got about 14 inches of snow, but it is hard to tell with all the drifts! Working on a new shelf for under the new/old quilting table. Hope to wrap up school efficiently and head to the nook to organize all the pile of quilting supplies. Will I ever get past the organizing and back to the sewing?

Have a great day. Stay warm. Stay safe. SuzyQue

It's cold-14- here but sunny. I'm waiting for DD to pick me up so we can go fabric shopping. Well she's shopping, I'm just tagging along. I have stuff to finish before I can add to my collection. at least that's what I tell myself. I think I have enough leftovers I won't have to cook again tonight.

                  HI Ladies
Getting in from my short day at work. Made a run to the beauty supply house and since it was on the way home, stopped at the LQS to oogle some expensive fabric. Sometimes I wonder how they stay in business. But I like the gals and the fabric always FEELS SO GOOD to stroke. I say sweet nothings to the rows of fabric, promising them I will be back to admire their beauty, standing at attention, silently waiting for my return, lol. I did purchase a panel to add to the stash my Sissy and I work on intermittently. Also found some cute fabric to make some oversized coasters.

Dinner tonite will be some homemade sliders with chili, slaw and onions. Hubs will be in heaven. I haven't made them in months.

I brought one of my doll/mini quilts that I have been piddling with for a week. I am almost done with the binding, and will try to remember to take a picture to post. I plan on making a doll to go with it. Hopefully, the pair will sell. This time of year makes me very nervous as we almost always have to pay taxes since I am self employed. I used to file quarterly but in the past several years my income has been low enough to not bother. Imagine my surprise when I was hit with a big payment due to the infernal revenue service. That and property taxes break my back. I heard this a.m. on the radio that our county leads our state in unemployment. No surprise here.
Lynn, Mother Nature seems to following historical patterns from what I understand watching a recent tv show on this subject. Luscious Larry and I are fascinated by weather and consequently often humbled by it. We attempt each year to have a good garden to restock our pantry with canned goods (and some frozen as well) for our family. My sis and I are busy combing over catalogs for heirloom seeds and laying out our garden plans. Her soil just up the road from me is better than mine but my sun exposure is superior. what fun we have with this planning. our hubbies just indulge us and follow our wishes most of the time.

Patti, video I've seen on the news makes me shiver just seeing those mountains of snow - worthy of a bunny slope! Love your chutzpah!

Sandy, that pic of the Mo. icy snow was awesome. Keep warm!

                  Check in later, gators.

                    Hi everyone!
Up late this morning so no time to check in at o'darkthirty. School wasn't too bad today. Glad it's over.
Odie flys out tonight around 8 - still pretty sick but will see medical when he gets to Ft. Sill. Said he still doesn't want to talk today cause of all the coughing, but I'm sure they'll take care of him once he arrives.

Guess I better walk down to church and get the bulletins copied so they are done. Then will come home and work on the snowman quilt. Looks like I'll have to clear the dining room table and layer it there since the kitties have slept all day. Now, to keep them off the table.

Hope you all have a chance to stay warm today.

                    Hugs,

Sandy that pic of the overhang is great...how does it stay there, I assume it is snow that has frozen, I have no experience of snow at all.

Blondie, they were talking about those cycles on the radio yesterday, but I don't want to even consider it because the numbers suggest we are due for a major bushfire...doesn't bear thinking about right now.

Trish I hope Odie gets to feeling better soon, it's no fun being that sick and coughing over an extended period is so draining.
