It's Friday last day of March 2023

There will probably be 2 posts this fine morning. I see Katrina on. Today my girl turns 13. I sang Happy Birthday when Phil called. I told she was only allowed to have an absolutely wonderful day. I know they have things planned for tonight. We will go tomorrow and celebrate with her. I got to town yesterday and did the running around I needed to do. Hubby is having a hard time with his sugar. I had a 2 hour nap in the afternoon, that felt good.

Not sure what today will bring just yet. Have a great Friday and weekend ahead.
Blessed are the children of the piecemakers for they shall inherit the quilts!

Good Morning, Everyone ~ I'm hoping for a good day. Yest. I spent a lot of time on the computer & on the phone. Talked to my gr. dau. for >1 hr. She's doing okay. The night her mom died was rough. Plans are underway for her sis to fly to Dallas on next Wed. She & her sister will drive to AL on Thurs. to get their mom's things & hopefully bring bring back her car. They don't know if it's in good enough condition for a long drive. Their uncle (Cheryl's bro.) plans to go with them. They will get C's things, then drive back to Dallas, probably Sat. By then the ashes should be ready. Ayesha wants to have a family get together on Easter Sun.; it will be at her aunt's house. C's dad still is living & lives with C's sister. It will be just a family time of remembrance, no services. Ayesha's sister will need to be back to Seattle by April 11. My son has booked a ticket to fly down on Sat., will be there for Easter, then come back Mon.

I talked with my son last eve. Ayesha said he stayed home from work yest. I guess Cheryl's death affected him more than he thought it would, even though they haven't been together for many year. I don't think any of us, except Ayesha, who's been in freq. contact with her, thought Cheryl would pass so soon. She was taken to the hosp. on Tues.; she became combative & wouldn't take her meds. from either her S/O or the hospice people. Apparently the cancer went to her brain. Ayesha's sister really wanted to do face time with her mom before she passed. Ayesha was able to talk with Cheryl's nurse & set that up for her. I think they used messaging on Facebook or something. Alyssa was able to talk to & see her mom. Cheryl died soon after they talked. No family was with her, which made Ayesha very sad. Her S/O already had gone home for the night.

My son said he was rather sad yest. He took a bereavement day from work yest. He looked through pictures, etc. & didn't really do anything much all day, but stayed home. He plans to work today. He & Cheryl were together only ~2 yrs., but it was a significant part of his life, & they had a dau. together.

I'm eating better, and I think Glen is, too. He needs to gain back the significant weight he lost. For someone who normally weighs only 120 lb., losing 7 lb. is a lot. I've gained back 5 of the 15 lb. I lost. My appetite is improving.

We had a balmy day yest. It was cloudy most of the day, but the sun often comes out late afternoon. It warmed up to almost 70*! We're still under a red flag warning for warm temps. & wind & incr. fire danger. It got very windy yest. p.m. There was a grass fire in SE Colo. yest. & a small town had to be evac'd. Temps. reached 80* in that part of the state. And snow in the mts. Such diverse weather we have in different parts of our state.

My plans for today are to pick up my mother's ring from the jeweler's where it's been for the past month for prong repair. I have a massage at 11:30; I am really looking forward to that!

All the blocks for Jan's quilt are so pretty. I'm enjoying viewing them all. I need to get started on mine.

Not much anyone can say or do, if the patient wants to go. It seems that she made that decision awhile ago, but it's still very difficult for all who have known her. I'm not surprised at your son's reaction. They had history together. I hope this will bring him closer to his daughter. It sounds likes she needs him to be part of her life. Hugs for family all around.
I'm happy to see that health is continuing to improve in your household. I wouldn't be rushing to put back the 15lbs lost. When I've lost 5-10lbs when sick, I try to only put back half of it back, and feel much better for it. That seems to be the only way I can lose weight.

My son will be flying to Dallas on the Sat. before Easter & stay until the Mon. after. He'll be there for church together on Sunday & for the family get-together. Ir will be mostly Cheryl's family - her bro., sis, Ayesha & her sister. There might be a few cousins, also. And Cheryl's dad. I think it will all work out.

Good Morning. We weathered the big storm last night and it wasn’t as bad here as forecasted. I don’t know how the counties around us did.

I did okay with my dental appt yesterday but I have to go back Monday and that should be my last appt until I have the gum graft done in a couple of months. We went out for a late lunch and I finally got some fried shrimp!! I didn’t have to cook last night which was nice.

Monique, I still can’t imagine Maizyn being a teenager. So glad you will celebrate with her this weekend. I hope Les feels better.

I have nothing new to share this morning. We are going to walk our property and make sure we didn’t lose any trees in the storm last night.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone. 🌸

Joy, it sounds like you were a wonderful person again giving condolences and listening to the grieving . It is an art to be a caregiver.
Monique., have a wonderful birthday celebration with that new teenager!
Me, I sandwiched the new quilt and started random feather FMQ. Its going along well.
Invited the neighbor over for supper last night. I made a rendition of burritto/fajitas and he really scarfed them down. He is primarily a vegetarian eater but sure loaded it up with chorizo and chicken along with avacados/cheese/tomatoes/onions/peppers. He ate 3 and then I brought out a box of frozen eclairs and DH and he ate the whole box of 30. DH asked me how much they cost and I told him $6 and he said...a bargain, we should keep those in the freezer always. Yeah, right!
Life is good. Enjoy your day.

Having been through previous losses myself, I do have compassion for others going through similar circumstances. I had to laugh (to myself ) about my gr. dau., who does not drink. She mentioned she bought a bottle of wine & drank 2 glasses before going to bed Thurs. night so she'd sleep! She was wishing she could get an Rx for Xanax to help her through this time. On top of all this that she was dealing with, she had an infected tooth that had to be pulled. It was very close to her sinus & she got a sinus infection. & was quite miserable with it all. Plus she worries about their finances, Chad's job, etc. They've been through so many challenges in their few years of marriage.

Good morning all. Yesterday was more of the same. I put a zippers in a dog bed I'm making for my sister. I thought I had enough scraps to fill it up, but not quite. No problem, just zipped it up and put it away in the closet. Give me a few weeks and I should have enough. Then I started working on the 2nd purse. I think I may have it figured out. Finished off the day by going to watch our Astros play ball. This was the first season opener game they have lost in 11 years. At least the game was close. Because of the earlier start time, I was able to get home before 10.

Not sure what today will bring. I feel the urge to do several things. I guess I should get busy and at least do something.

MSN, Yes. I sure did. I think overall the game went much faster. Of course, there weren't many people ever on base so it definitely moved faster.

Good morning everyone. We are home from the burial of hubby’s father. Minimal drama from his new wife. Really glad that is over. It has been hanging over our heads for a long time now. He died in Sept 2019.

I have a stack of dirty laundry to work my way through today. I also need to call the guy I bought my new sewing machine from and find out what the deal is. I haven’t heard any updates in almost 2 weeks. Sigh.

I have had time to cut out several of the Sewcialites blocks so if I ever get the machine I am ready to go. Hope everyone has a great day.

        Good Morning All,

I was up, decided to get dressed because the sod guys are coming today. Well, I got dressed, walked out to the living room and the door bell rang. Mercy, just in time! Didn't even get my teeth brushed first. I have the blue backing for the jolly bar quilt in the washer with 4 color catchers. We'll see what damage that does, might run it again if necessary. The plan is to look for some batting that's big enough for the baby quilts while that's working away.

It's so nice to hear such rambunctious laughter coming from the front of the house. Now to remember to get them to set the irrigation to run the way they want it to run, before they leave. They're already throwing the sod down! Short job with so many hands working!

Gabby is going barking nuts. lol, she'll be tired today! Prayers for those in need, for healing touches, for comfort and peace, for grace and mercy. Prayers of thanksgiving for all of our many blessings.

          Good Morning

Rainy day ahead. I felt like I accomplished a lot yesterday, but when I think back it doesn’t seem as much as I thought. I cleaned the oven & will scrub the racks this morning. I did a blitz through bathroom cabinets getting rid of old products, then I worked at storage shelves in the utility room. Reorganized shelves & put a lot of smaller things into a tote, so I made some spaces on the shelves. DGD is moving into an apartment next year rather than the dorm. I have a box of kitchen utensils & pots that I hope she will take. I started a donation box of a few things we won’t use.

In the afternoon I sewed the inner border on my top. There was just enough background fabric to do it. There isn’t enough of the print left for outer border & I don’t think I have a stash fabric that will work. I will take a more careful look today, but if not I will set that top aside until I can go shopping. I’m not sure what my next quilt will be. Too many ideas in my head, but I do have 3 peaceful days to work at something.

Colin flew to Florida yesterday. He phoned mid afternoon very upset because Visa card declined. He tried to phone bank but couldn’t get it sorted out, so I made 3 phone calls & got it sorted out. I think he must have put wrong pin in repeatedly so they blocked the card. Then he phoned in the evening that he couldn’t get connected to wifi. I walked him through that. He seems to get so confused by things, & then that makes all the problems worse. We talked this morning & he had a good night’s sleep, so hopefully a better day today.

          Enjoy your day.

            Good Morning,

Yesterday baby and I spent most of our time running errands and eating lunch with sewing friends. I sure miss sewing with the girls, I just have to be satisfied with little visits for now. I picked the other three grands up from daycare and everybody was here for taco night. Once everyone was gone hubby and I sat in our chairs watching TV. I should have been productive but I just didn't have the energy or desire.

This afternoon I have to go to mom's while her new television and internet is being set up. A second set of ears will be good in learning how everything is to operate. Tonight hubby has to pick up his packet for a race he's running tomorrow and we're going to a friend's retirement party. The weather is supposed to get really bad with high winds, hail and tornado activity possible. If it's looking too bad I will stay home. I'm getting close to trading in my vehicle and I sure don't want hail damage.

That's it from me. Baby is down for his first nap, which is usually his longest. I need to put my rear in high speed to get as much done as possible.

            Have a Blessed Day!

              Good morning to All!

Yay, it is Friday and a day for me to do just what I want. Sewing and a visit to the LQS sound like a good plan. There are a couple of errands that I should do.

Dinner for tonight will be roast turkey with mashed potatoes and gravy. I will throw a handful of cranberries in a pot to simmer down. They are so tasty. I finally remembered to purchase a few bags during the holiday and put in the freezer.

Hope your day is wonderful. Happy Stitches!

              Good morning all,

Wow - can hardly believe Maizyn is a teenager. Enjoy your time this weekend with her.

Yesterday unfolded as planned. That doesn't happen often. Had dental appt, my hygienist is back from EU trip, but now down to 2 days/week. She was much more thorough than her replacement. No cavities. She works 2 days as mobile unit to seniors' residences. She enjoys that a lot more. I met the 2nd dentist who replaced mine when he retired. Never met the 1st one, he left after 6 mths. This one is from Alberta. I ran errands afterwards, made smoked meat sandwiches for lunch and decided to load and quilt another VQC top. I made haddock, garlic shrimp, quartered spiced potatoes and corn -- hollandaise sauce on the side, which I put on corn. I had baklava for dessert.

This morning, we have another insulation company to give us estimate. We've eliminated the one from last week. So between the one on Monday and this one. Then to schedule the work to be done sometime after Easter. We are having 16 for Easter dinner which includes 6 grands. Now to think of menu and seating arrangements. This aft, I plan to trim the quilt and maybe work on more blocks while I get another top quilted. We have our VQC meeting on Monday, so hope to turn in 3.

Enjoy your day -- its sunny and we might see a bit more snow melt. It's getting absorbed as it melts, so no mess.
Enjoy life and do what makes you happy. Everything else will follow.

Michele -- that's a lot of tops. Fortunately, we use cotton flannel for backing which we cut to 80" length, it is 60" wide. So we can accommodate quilts up to 52-53"w x 70-73" long. There are only 2 of us LAs and the other lady does FMQ only. We had whittled down our tops of ~50 tops, but there have been at least that many that were made during year. It's done 1-2, get another 2-3. Does your group tie any of the quilts? At our monthly meetings, there is a table of ladies that tie 2-3 each time. It does help.

Suzanne, this backlog is partly from the pandemic when folks who weren't in our group were sewing like mad and brought the quilt tops into the LQS where we used to meet. We also had someone donate dozens and dozens of tops all at once a few months ago. We spent the morning measuring and cataloging them all.
I think folks would try quilting on their DSM if the quilts were smaller but most of them are twin size, so that doesn't help the situation. I asked them about tying and was told that the group thinks it's not ideal for quilts that will be washed a lot.

It sounds like you accumulated a backlog of quilts same way we did. We have put a hold on accepting more tops from quilters outside the group, until we get it down to manageable space size. Our coordinator has given up her spare rooms, just to store materials, tops, batting, backing, stash of fabric and finished tops.

              Good morning!

I am off work today. That's one advantage of having worked for the same employer for a long time -- I have a lot of accrued leave. I'm not sure what the day will hold. I would like to work on a couple of sewing/quilting projects so I can pack up the cutting table for a bit. As soon as I clear it off, it gets covered with projects again!

Things are not going well with Walgreens over the gift card situation. I sent them the pictures they requested, but they want a copy of the actual receipt from when my sister bought the card. Customer service said if I don't have that (I don't; I have the activation receipt) I can get it from the store. I don't see the store handing that over since I'm not the one who paid for the card. Especially if my sister paid by credit card. I haven't told my sister about the scam. All they are doing really is setting a bunch of hoops for me to jump through in the hopes I will give up. I'm not even sure their emails come from a real person. They might be generated by a bot.

I saw this on the Embroidery Library website the other day. It never would have occurred to me to try to embroider on "bathroom tissue." (My Mom was a real stickler and would always correct us if we said "toilet paper." Of course we would say toilet paper just to get her going. Fun memory!). I'm tempted to try it as a gag gift for my Ohio sister's birthday. 🤣. Here's a link if you're interested in how they do it. There is interfacing involved. https://www.emblibrary.com/EL/ELProj...oductid=PR1041.

I think that unless you ask your sister for some kind of proof, the store is not obliged to make good, and your efforts to pursue further are futile. She may have fraud protection provided automatically with her cc that provides for this type of activity.

I had something similar happen with a gift card years ago. I had purchased a fast-food card for one of the grands and when they went to use it, there was only 3$ on it. The tiny paper receipt they give you I tape to the back of the card now.

The first year we lived in Colorado (1978), we had 15" of very wet, heavy snow on May 5! And the flowering trees were all in bloom at the time. No one was getting anywhere is that wet mess. It's the only time in our years here the the IBM plant site near Boulder closed & employees weren't expected to report for work. Fortunantely, the boys still were at home & could help with shoveling. We all worked at it back then. It's been known to snow here even into June. Spring weather is so unpredictable.

              Good Morning,

Yesterday I worked most of the day on the scrappy quilts. I think I am going to use the larger pieces as a scrappy back. This way a good portion of the scraps will get used and not wasted.

I made a pan of roasted veggies yesterday. They turned out really good. I have enough left overs for several days. There were easy to do and don't really take that long, so I think I will make them again. Nothing really happening here.

It's so easy and healthy. 425 for about 20 minutes
There are all kinds of spice options packages in the spice section for pan vegetables or you can just use
the spice you have on hand. Lightly sprinkle olive oil or avocado oil on the pan again whatever you like. I like asparagus, mushrooms, carrots, zucchini, yellow squash, tomatoes, red potatoes, sweet potatoes and a must for me Brussel sprouts cut into chunks. Maybe this would work for vegetables that are on your husband's diet. I like it fixed with no meat. Amanda adds sliced summer sausage .

We love roasted veggies, I make them all the time. Sometimes a mixture, other times just one veggie. Did asparagus the other night. Brussels sprouts are a favorite of ours. I cut the veggies into a bowl and pour over a generous amount of olive oil so everything gets a good coating. I vary the herbs and spices. Even just salt and pepper taste great! Put foil on a sheet pan and clean up is a breeze. So good and so healthy!!
