Mom passed away gently early this morning. She was more than ready to walk with Jesus and to rejoin my dad and family. I got the call at 2:50 am, and was at her place shortly afterwards. I had said my goodbyes on Sunday as I spent a quiet afternoon playing her favorite music. She did not suffer much longer after she started receiving palliative care on Friday,
I spent the day clearing the remainder of her room. Most of her items were donated to the home for use by other residents. I cancelled cable, phone & contacted funeral home. My daughter came by after the kids were in school, and we loaded personal items. We came home, and the workers were almost done installing the glass doors for our shower. Check that off the list. Next vanity, counter, sink & faucet - hopefully this week. We went for a nice lunch and discussed options for funeral. One thing was an easy pick -- her service and visitation will be on December 8 -- mom was very religious and that is the date of the Immaculate Conception, and 3 months after her birthday, Sept 8 - Virgin Mary.
The date also gives me and family time to regroup and prepare for that day. Tomorrow I will meet with the funeral home to review arrangements. I have drafted obit, which my daughter will review. I did find a few pictures that I want to use or have printed. Mom & dad -- waving us goodbye (I think they were leaving for Portugal & Spain). It's goodbye, until we are all together again.
