    A New Prayer Request

This is for another niece, Tami. I didn't hear from her at Christmas time, so I e-mailed her this week. I heard back today. Before Christmas, she was diagnosed with stage 2 triple negative breast cancer. She lives in western OR & has to travel to Portland for major testing & treatments. She'll be starting chemo. on Thursday, every other week x 16 wks., then surgery is planned. I would appreciate prayers for her as she starts her treatments that all will go well. Thanks for praying.

Tami will definitely be in my prayers. I will specifically be praying that the doctors know & use the right treatment for her to destroy this cancer in her body. Thank you for letting us know so we can lift up prayers to our Heavenly Father on her behalf.

Sending healing thoughts for a successful treatment, Joy. I never heard of triple negative breast cancer, is it more serious than regular breast cancer?

Triple negative is a type of breast cancer in which the tumor tests negative for estrogen receptors (ER), progesterone receptors (PR), and a protein called HER2. This type of tumor is not fueled by hormones or by the HER2 protein. It is more challenging to treat, because it does not respond to hormonal therapy or to chemotherapy medications like Herceptin that target the HER2 protein. About 10-20% of all breast cancers are triple negative. It is considered to be more aggressive than other breast cancers.

Thanks, MSN, for explaining the triple negative breast cancer info. I did look it up last night, but didn't have time to post about it. Folks can read up about it on the web. I read also that it can be a more aggressive type of cancer.
