    Any bird lovers?

We have this bird in our yard today. We think it’s called Wilson’s Snipe, but we’re not bird-followers (yet!). His body is about 6” long and his beak is maybe 3” long.

How handsome! I love birds. The Cardinals come on my deck regularly now. I put up some netting to keep out the myna birds and one stubborn chicken. Myna birds are a nuisance. There're funny to watch, but greedy and messy. lol Most all of the really pretty birds here live up in the forests. Rare to see them.

We don’t know for sure what this is but looking at pictures online seem to be this one. This bird looks like it’s sitting but bops his body up and down so funny. I took a video and sent to a friend and she laughed but didn’t know what it is.

I have a well worn Golden Guide to Field Identification of North America Birds. It looks like a Common Snipe. Common in marshes and bogs and along riverbanks. It looks like the summer/breeding range is all of Canada & on up to Alaska. The winter range covers the majority of the USA. It generally stays close to cover.

To me that looks like a sandpiper. The way you describe its actions also make me thing that is what it is. Nope. Just found it. I think it is a common snipe.

Looks like either a Wilson's Snipe or a Common Snipe. Both birds look a lot alike. They belong to the Sandpiper family. Their habitat is bogs, marshes & wet meadows. They mainly eat insects & earthworms. They fly in a zig-zag pattern. I looked them up in my bird books.
