    From the annals of 6th grade book reportage

    The day before the COVID-19 virus shut down schools here in Connecticut, I quit my old job so I could become a permanent substitute teacher for a class of 4th through 6th graders (basically 10- to 12-year-olds) whose teacher is on maternity leave. We are doing distance learning with the students, who are turning in assignments weekly to a cabinet located just outside the school building, and picking up their assignments for the following week.

    Since I just started, I've never even had the opportunity to meet some of these children in person, but I'm having fun getting to know them academically. Here's a sentence from a book report on a biography of David Livingstone:

    "Then making the trip to Africa, David had an adventurous adventure, including being mauled by a lion and marrying Mary Moffat."

    I'm still trying to figure out whether being mauled by a lion or being married to Ms. Moffat was more adventurous!
