    Good Morning, Ladies

Sewsoft- how frightening that ice storm! I don't know anyone who can manuver on ice. I dread winter because we get mostly ice and that is generally on top of snow. Yuck.

Lynn, I have an auntie who lived in Australia back in the 60's. My cousins came home with lovely aussie accents for quite a while. She has often said that the 6 years she lived there were the happiest of her life. The family moved to various locales to really get the "feel" of the folks and scenery.

I have already been up and cleaning the bathrooms better than I normally do; company will be here before I know it. I still have that horrible junk room to tackle. Hubs will help me there on Wednesday. Everything else is looking better, thank goodness. In a minute I will tackle the sewing area downstairs. One of my dear friend's lost her Dad back in Sept. She and her siblings would like for me to make a few lap quilts out of his shirts. So, on Saturday she brought me huge bags full of his shirts. They are all mostly stripes and plaids so I am going to have to sort them out and figure what do pattern. Any ideas? I have done some of Bonnie Hunters shirt tales in the past. I am wanting of course something fast. AND easy. LOL.

    Blessings to all

    Good morning!

My goodness Blondie, wish you were here to tackle my house.

When I was a little girl, Mom used to buy me those little mini embroidery kits. When there was a stitch that I didn't know how to do, Mom would sit down and show me. I don't believe there was a stitch that she didn't know. Anyway, I found some embroidery patterns and decided to give it a whirl to see if I remembered how to do it and very proud to say, it all came back.

I'm so very thankful to have had a Mom and Dad who taught me many things in life, but mostly who were always there to "show me those stitches" that were needed in life.

    Wishing everyone a blessed day!

      Happy Monday Morning!

Blondie - Good for you on the cleaning! As far as the shirts, my go to quick pattern has just been the D9P. I like the versatility with the layout of the blocks. What ever you do I am sure they will love and cherish it.

NM - What a nice memory of your Mother! I doubt there are too many mothers left that even know embroidery stitches today.

Had a busy day off yesterday. Cleaning for the week, shopped for Thanksgiving dinner and made lasagna and german chocolate cake for Sunday dinner with BF's family. We try to have them over every Sunday. I managed to whip together two holiday items I need for Thursday, a square table topper and a table runner, in holiday fabric.
Tonight I need to get them quilted.

Can't wait for Thanksgiving! My daughter is coming for dinner and the BF's family will be by later for pie. It is my favorite holiday!

      Take care all!

        Morning All!

Wow Blondie! It sounds like you have your work cut out for you, pardon the pun. I love to have company over, I just don't always like the work preparing for them to come! Although I do like to know the house is super clean for a little while. Wiping off the top of the refrigerator isn't something I do on a weekly basis.
I'd have said that a string quilt would be fun with the shirts and it would give the shirting material some additional support, but that sounds like a lot of cutting and sewing. I'll see if I can find the book with the photo of the string quilt with all of the plaids together. It was really homey looking. I suppose you could make the strips fairly wide. A 9-patch would also showcase the fabrics. You could leave them whole or slice them up to make them a disappearing 9-patch.
NM - How fun that you have those memories of stitching with your mom. I think of the things I remember doing with my mom, and strive to make similar memories with my own daughter. She already loves to bake and cook. I can't wait until it is time to decorate Christmas Cookies this year. We ought to really have some fun there!

We got some snow yesterday. It was only an inch or two, but the cold that came with it is going to be harder than the snow. We did manage to get the fence repaired at the neighbor's place. Although I did have some very uncharitable thoughts as we were floundering around out there trying to find her fencing tools and supplies. Thankfully I brought some of my own equipment, but it is no wonder that she has constant repair issues over there. Wrong tools and materials for the situation. My guess is that the whole fence will need to be replaced before winter and the breeding season is over. Oh well. Not really my problem.
My concern is with my own animals. I'll wait until it gets light here and then head down to the barn and get it pitched, as I did not get that far yesterday. It is supposed to get down to the low 20's with wind and more snow by this afternoon and stay that way for a few days. Brrrr! I think a nice bed of fluffy straw would make a good place to snuggle down if I was a goat. Thankfully we have a wood stove for the house and I don't have to rely on straw to keep us warm in here!
I'll make a trip out to take the young 'un to her speech therapy for the week and a run to the grocery store for stuff for Thanksgiving baking. Than I'll see how much sewing I can get to.
You all take care and have a great Thanksgiving!

Morning!..All this talk of Thanksgiving make me hungry ( I love Turkey). As ours is past I have turned my thoughts to Christmas baking and the like. It is COLD here. Not as cold as were my brother is. -26 C with wind chill to -40. At that temp it is the same C or F. FREEZING!
Cathy...they are forecasting a major snow fall for the Washinton state...just came on the TV. Take care!
Spent a nice weekend with my hubby. Went to a neighbouring city to get some Christmas shopping done. I hate crowds and avoid malls closer to Christmas. Lesson learned though...don't take him with you when looking for a bathing suit. Enough said!
Finished my last pillowcase last night and during the week will get the rag quilt done. Next week I am on the road with work. Hope to take my sewing machine with me but we will see.
Well off to get started for the day...Good morning hugs all around!

Sally I agree about the turkey. I love it! And all the leftovers. Although I am glad that our Thanksgiving is in October. You gals have to work your butts off for Thanksgiving and then bam one month later you gotta do it all again! I would like it if we had a Black Friday though. I hear the shopping is THE best! I could never get to the US for that because it's too bad driving that time of year.
Blondie: You sound like you have endless energy. I wish I could find some today. Nothing but snow, snow, cold, and more cold here so I think I may just go have a nice winter's nap! lol
Cathy: My donkeys haven't come out of their shelter since the straw went in. They are covered with a blanket of snow that is stuck to their fur and I can't brush it off. Poor little things. I want to bring them in the house and thaw them out lol. The out door dogs haven't been outdoors very much either. My husband spoils them and thinks of them as humans. Soon I'll be able to spin all dog hair into a rug! lol
NM lady: What a beautiful memory of your Mom. It is for that very reason that we all must teach our daughters and granddaughters how to do hand work. Quilting, embroidery, (knitting if you're real brave and patient lol) is an important thing to learn. It is something that can give you so much self satisfaction as well as important time together. And a common bond is always a good thing.
Have a great Monday ladies. Sweet dreams if you are like me and going to take a long winters nap.

Hi everyone! Still working on DIL's table runner. I hope to finish it for thanksgiving but not sure! My oldest and his wife are having about 10-20 over for thanksgiving and we have been invited but hubby doesn't want to go. Youngest son is going to Ohio with his wife to see her family and my daughter is in Virginia so it will just be hubby and me this holiday. Oldest son is going to bring us a plate later in the day. We will just have a quite day with a book or tv. Christmas will be busy for us. Hope all the family will be home then. Everyone have a Happy Thanksgiving and be safe! See you later, sweet potatas! Yes Sally, my husband is lucky if he gets to see the bathing suit after I buy it. When I get to the pool I have a coverup on and try to distract him to something else as I slip into the water. LOL Of course his shape isn't any better than mine so he really doesn't want to go there.
All this talk of Thanksgiving is making me get excited. Last year my granddaughter was so sick and was on a nutrapenic diet so she couldn't have hardly anything to eat. No fruit, no vegetables, no pies, and everything she did eat had to be pipping hot and eaten within 20 minutes or it was considered a leftover and she couldn't have leftovers either. So far her blood levels are just under normal so she can have everything and we are celebrating with all our traditional foods like fruit salad and dressing and the pies and sweet potatoes. And everything else she couldn't have last year. So we are all excited. So far her blood levels are near normal and we will know by Jan 1 if she is in remission. So far so good. And we keep praying she is in remission. Other wise she has to go through the meds and tests and transfusions again until they decide on a bone marrow transplant. Which is a last ditch effort they tell us. So we are hoping and praying for the best.
I wish all of you the best Thanksgiving ever, and all the good things life has to offer. I wish you all good health, family and friends for this holiday. Oh and all the best foods that are Thanksgiving! YUM
See you all later, good Monday! Hugs, Jan

                    Hi, everyone !
I didn't want to wait until the last minute to wish all of you a memorable and fun filled Thanksgiving. We have so very much to be thankful for. We have relatives arriving from N.Carolina for a one week visit. Just like Blondie, I've been cleaning guest rooms, bathrooms, closets, medicine cabinets, etc. I want everything to be perfect to show that their visit is special to me. I have already begun wrapping Xmas gifts. Now I know you all hate me ! I did it because many have to be shipped before long. Hope I can get to some sewing in a week or so. Wouldn't it be great to be prepared well ahead of the holidays and be able to relax & enjoy the time spent with those we love? It's a dream I hope to someday experience. I did say DREAM, right???

                      Re: Monday, Nov 22

Snowy, very cold day here in Seattle! I have lived here all my life and have never had snow BEFORE Thanksgiving! Roads are shutting down as I type this, since we are woefully underprepared for snow around here, let alone so late in the fall/early winter. My husband has to work tonight driving a truck, hopefully, they will keep him close to the base. This is really insane!
On top of that, we are expecting very windy conditions tonight.

Blondie-will come clean my house?? I just can't seem to get it done!! Too much school work, and procrastination!

I hope everyone is warm and safe tonight!!

                      HUGS!

Sorry to hear some of you have snow. I don't like it myself and would move to a warmer climate if I could. But I know it will never happen so I just stay out of it. Fortunately I work here in town at the school and can walk when they call for a mess.

Odie is 19 hours into his 54 hour Crucible. I am praying for him. He will get 4 hours of sleep at midnight tonight. I will be happy then.
Tomorrow's schedule looks unreal for him and the obstacles he has to go through.

Still have to get Zach's quilt layered. Think I'll do that on Wednesday when I am off from school. I also have to do it when the cats are sleeping so they don't want to help me. I prefer less wrinkles.

Well, you all have a good night.

                        Hugs,

We are saying prayers for Odie too. Just thought you'd like to know. We pray for his safety, his honer as a cadet, and his sacrifice for his country. He'll do great, He's got you for a Mom, how could he do less Trish? He'll be fine.
Everyone have a good night and sleep well or have a good day depending on where in the world you are. I wish you all well. Good night hugs, Jan

                            Re: Monday, Nov 22

Well ladies I am here to wish you all a Happy Thanksgiving. I don't want to miss anybody either and it sounds like we will all be getting much busier over the next few days.
We had about another 6 inches of snow fall today. The weather has turned for the worse. It is now blowing and the temp has fallen to 19F. It is predicted to go down to at least 17F. We figure we may loose power again with the wind. We did get the barns cleaned and deep bedding down. My husband was worried about the old ladies and he boarded up the upper side of the barn to keep the winds out tonight. We did get out to the grocery as well. We are now set no matter what comes. The wood stove is making our house all nice and toasty.
I even splurged and turned on the floor heating in our bathroom. It feels soooo great on cold, tired feet. You can feel it all the way to your knees. I whined about the tiles being cold long enough that my husband put in the in floor heating down when he tiled the bathroom. I do like the tile much better than the carpeting that was in there when we moved in, especially since it is warm!
I have a few more of the fleece stuffed toys that I can work on if the power goes out, or I can cut out things for when the electricity comes back.
Trish: Prayers for Odie. I am sure he will do just fine.
Carol-Ann: Hahahaha! Prepared before Christmas! That is a dream! Perhaps one day... perhaps.
Shauna: Thanks for the warm thoughts! You all have been dealing with it longer than we have and much colder too! Brrr! You take care and bundle up!
Keepstitchin: It has snowed before Thanksgiving here in Western Washington. It was in the mid 1980's. Either '85 or '86. I was in high school and we had to cancel our school play.
Pinky: I am sorry that your donkeys have permafrost on their coats. I have no idea how to get it off without a long extension cord and a hair dryer. That is probably not very safe though!
You all take care, I am headed for the wood stove and the news then the bed! I'll check in with you all in the morning if we have power!
