    just wondering about other hobbies?

Good am... i was just wondering if there are any other "multiple hobbie/crafting" girls here..
i am way too multiple...but have knitted, crocheted, and sewn all my life...quilting has become my retirement hobby... i LOVE it all!! Knitting or Crochet is something i MUST do each day or it just doesn't feel right. My DH and i are TV people, (mostly him)... but that's our time together, so lots gets done with the needles...anywhoooo... i was just wondering.. cause' if anyone needs any help, i'm glad to give tips or help if i can.. i worked in a yarn shop from the age of 14 up until i had my first baby... i'm now 63, so i've had a lot of practice..... so let's hear it for "multi-crafters"!!!! Yay! LOL just joining in your cheer!
I do a bit of multi-crafting. I also do some crochet, have done some needle tatting, machine embroidery and now quilting (again) and some sewing.
I have done counted cross stitch in the past, but most, if not all, of my supplies for that have been given away, also a bit of bead weaving for jewelry, but have given that up too.
I am not much of a TV person anymore, but will sit and crochet or do some hand stitching while hubby watches sometimes.

Oh yeah! I sew, knit, crochet a little, make sea glass jewelry, American Girl doll clothes, Christmas ornaments of all kinds (a different one every year for family and friends), have done stained glass (but not for several years); dabbled in candlemaking, origami, basket weaving and whatever else caught my fancy. Time to get back to some of those!

Besides sewing quilts, I enjoy making other things as well. for several years now I have created dolls from paper clay or paper mache and sometimes a combo of them. I sell them locally and occasionally online. They are folk artsy looking things. I will have one of my dolls featured in a magazine this next year in the spring edition of Create and Decorate magazine. I am tickled about that.
I also enjoy crocheting, embroidery, rug hooking, painting and whatever strikes my fancy.
          Sewing mends the soul.

I think we all have the affliction. I love to crochet, like you said it just doesn't feel right if I don't crochet some each day. I sew but just learning, paint some of everything, love to make greeting cards, scrapbooking or anything crafty. Welcome to MSQC.

I used to do wilton cake decorating but have not done that in quite awhile. I machine knit, hand knit, crochet, and have done other crafts. And now quilting. Oh yes, I also sewed my own clothes and my kids clothes when they and I were younger. Much much younger. lol

Re: just wondering about other hobbies?

I mostly quilt but make other little sewing projects mostly for my grandaughter. I have crochet and knitted all my life but don't do much of either anymore. I do like to read and do that on the train but not when I am home.
Traveling is another hobby of mine but that takes $$ of which I am short of these days!
I have a real passion for cooking also but it is usually followed up by my passion for eating! I've decided to trade my cooking hobby for my quilting hobby and do more of the quilting. Lesser calories in that!

Hi Ladies, I thought it was just me that jumps from one hobby to another . I learned how to sew as a child and Have been doing so off and on for 29 years. I also learned to Crochet, Knit, make Jewelry, Decorate Cakes, Scrapbook, Make Greeting Cards of Which I am selling online. I am now quilting which brings me back to sewing Aahhhh . I've tried other crafts and always come back to sewing for some reason. I only know how to do a basic chain with crocheting, Knitting I've only made a hat that looked like what happened and why! Hmmm. I'd like to find a hobby that can be taken with me anywhere I go and doesn't require a lot of packing and lugging stuff around like a sewing machine. For when I can't take my sewing machine with me, But need to escape the moment...

Re: just wondering about other hobbies?

When I was out of high school I worked at a craft store. NOT the place for saving the paycheck.
I have tried many things, but the ones that have seemed to stick are: sewing & quilting, cooking & baking, watercolor & decorative painting, pen & ink. I still have my spinning wheel, but since I can't knit or crochet and we sold all of the sheep, I don't do much of that anymore. I have supplies for Femo clay sculpting & scrapbooking, neither of which have gotten any love in quite a while. I was a Wilton cake instructor for a while too, and I still love to decorate cakes as gifts or for special occasions. (P.S. I HATE fondant. I want my cake to taste good all the way through.)
I have dairy goats and I have made cheese, ice cream, and other edibles with the milk. I have not tried soap as the chemicals can be pretty harsh and I want some place a little safer to mix them than in my kitchen I use for our meals.
It sounds like we are a very multi-talented group.

Toggpine you reminded me I also have a spinning wheel and learned to spin yarn. It's a lot of fun. I also sat at my first spinning wheel at the age of 8 at a elementary field trip to a farm.

Re: just wondering about other hobbies?

I have done crewel, cross stitch and now quilting. Made knitted scarves one year but never learned skills to go beyond. They tried to teach me crochetiing in Home Ec but because iIwrite with my left hand everyone thought I was left handed and tried to teach me that way and it didin't work. Truth is I do all my crafts right handed. So I would love to learn to crochet and tat. My grandma used to Tat and I still have some of her work. SO how do I go about learning?

My other hobbies include outdoor photograghy which leads to scrapbooking, golf, used to paint with acrylics, but haven't done that in years, I love to hike and ride my bicycle, when I'm relaxing counted cross stitch is a lot of fun. I tried to teach my self to crochet without any luck. Anyhoo, making quilt tops and squares is a lot fun too. Making the squares kind of reminds me of putting a puzzle together AND when we were growing up, Mom and Dad always had a puzzle on a table so that as we walked by we would try to find where at least one piece went, so thats what I like making quilt tops. LOL
