Sunday Oct 10th...chat,laughs and the only day that is 10-10-10

Good Morning all . ..5 A.M. and finally time to catch up with everyone.
Coffee with cinnamon added and french vanilla creamer...yum
The Autumn Leaves Festival was not what I expected and no quilts
Way to many people and too hot but we stuck it out,, I was so sad the paper said demonstrations and crafters. I only saw 2 out of all those booths that actually qualified it was more like a flea market but limited on what was homemade. I did watch a man making brooms which was interesting. Makes me sad that everything gets so commercialized...What happened to creativity.
Rodneys sister and sig other are still here but leaving this morning...and a good time was had by all.
I so missed all of you ...Ive become used to checking in
I did get some new fabric on the mountain yesterday and found a tutorial on you tube showing how to make one seam flying geese. I stayed up til 2 doing them ..very easy but wow did I miss Jenny..Their is no comparison on tutuorals...She hands down is the best!!
Patti hope the move went well and your not totally exhausted. Trust me I know how overwhelming a move can be.

Sheila its nice to see you and Jan is right ...we all get in a funk and that is what we are here for ...were funnier then therapy and sweeter too We woman seem to be the ones who truly knows the moods of each other and I love it this way
Trish I am sorry he is going thru so much at camp...but very proud he is surviving it. As a mom I know its got to be distressing to have him go thru this. I loved the pictures.
Cathy I am so sorry for what you have been thru this week. I learned to shoot ..after September 11th. Amazing what drugs can do to people's lives and how many others are put in jeopardy. Please just stay safe ...and find some peace in quilting and with us.
tonya what type of machine did you put on layaway. I know your demom machine was a brother but I really think you got a lemon. I have only brother machines and I just love them even the antique ones
Happy Birthday Sally and I hope the salmon run was fun
Sew Soft Im glad you found our little chat...and welcome.
Blondie....I had to smile at your comment Luscious Larry ....I find myself looking for your posts ...you make me laugh..smile and I am just so thankful we all found each other. Hug your parents for me please...I really miss my mom ..I know its only been a short time since her death but I was so used to taking care of her that I get to hear about your life and parents and its a blessing to me even as frustrating as it can be. Your a great daughter.
Jan I hope your day is restful and sweet. Im sorry our connection was so bad yesterday you would think up on the mountain it would be better but I truly think that even the cell phones get dizzy from all those windy roads...Never in my life have I seen roads so crooked its like meeting your butt around each turn and lord help me when another comes ....I just want to hit the floor board..lol!!
and did I mention ..no guard rails. eikkkkk.
Ok Im off to make more flying geese LOL to add to my pile of blocks that I have yet to put together ...hugs and love,
    Laura

    Good mornin all!
Laura - glad you are back with us! The one seam flying geese sounds interesting. Would you mind sharing the link? (what am I thinking??? I have seven quilts to finish before Christmas!) You know how we are always dreaming of the next one? Too bad the festival wasn't what you expected but at least you got some fabric!

I am so sore from moving I woke up with leg cramps at 4 am and tried to go back to sleep but couldn't. Took some aspirin and sorted through some stuff I've been meaning to get rid of. Funny how a move can make you realize how much you really should get rid of. My daughter and I threw away so much stuff with her move. Thanks to all of you for the encouragement about the moving process! I am going to miss having her so close but she was very lonely and unhappy here and she seems so much happier now! Happy and healthy is all a mom wants for her kids!
Last night we went to Joannes because I am making two quilts for her bedroom that she and my son's daughter (my DGD Kaylee who is 5yrs old) share when they stay up at my ex's house. They have decorated it in a "Surfer Girl" theme and she wants a twin and full quilts. We got some cute fabric from Hawaii with a cute girl on it so we bought a bunch of co-ordinating fabrics. She saw a quilt she loved when we were there and thank goodness it is a Disappearing Nine Patch, and I have made one of those so the pattern will be easy. Some of the holiday fabric was 50% so she picked some for a table square. It was so much fun to share my love of fabric with her, she has no interest in sewing or quilting, but it was a fun shopping with her.
Today I have loads of stuff to do before I can do any sewing so I am glad I am up early. Will check in later to see what everyone is up to!
    Bye for now!

      Good morning!
Love to see the Surfer Girl quilt - it sounds interesting.
Laura - make sure you take a day of rest today after all that you did yesterday. I had a chance to go to a huge craft show yesterday but decided after I went a few years ago that things were so expensive that I would stay home and sew.

Today - have the nursery in church to watch 3 little 3 year old boys play together and then off to Dad's. Will be cleaning out the garden some more, raking leaves, and mowing. I'll be bushed for sure later tonight.

Better run and get ready for the day.

Hope the sun is shining for everyone - low 70's here in Central PA and just beautiful!

      Hugs,

        Morning!

Laura - sorry the festival wasn't what you had hoped though you did get some fabric - yeah So happy you had a nice visit and are having fun sewing!

Patti - what a way to wake up - ouch. Your daughter sounds like mine lol. She likes to go shopping for fabric with me and points out what I should make her, but has no desire to quilt. Well maybe some day the quilting bug will bite them.

Trish - you have a busy day ahead. I have stuff that needs doing too so I better get to it. Football game later, though if the 'boys don't play any better than they have been I won't be watching long.

        Have a great day everyone!

Happy Sunday everyone. It is lovely here today and as our CraftySam gals Saundra said recently, Nothing could be finer than to be in Carolina in the morning! It's pretty outside, the leaves are falling slowly, the sun is shining, the birds are twittering at the feeders out my window, my strawberry bush is looking glorious, some type of rose that Luscious planted some time back is one of those floribundas I think that bloom constantly - yep, true to it's name - so pretty. Hmmm, so much to be thankful for.
Church in a bit unless Mom calls and asks me to sit with Pop for her to go.

Laura, I hate that the festival wasn't what you thought. It has been years since I have been to that one. As I mentioned I used to do shows. So sad with cheap imports - I always did well; would sell my homemade relishes, jams,. painted things, dolls, etc. I would generally sell out quickly. But since the economy has tanked there are less stringest requirements to set up booths. I did one several years back in Northern Va. outside of DC - little place called Berryville. Hubs and I stayed in Winchester. It was supposed to be juried with quilts all handmade. I sold my items quickly (lots of gourd heads and painted driftwood things, etc) and wandered into an area full of the most lovely quilts. Their prices were phenomenally low. They were hanging up from rafters and a gentleman was manning the booth. As I was speaking to him on how unbelieveable these quilts were, he told me his wife designed the quilts and had friends to sew them for her and then other friends quilted them. Being "blonde" I szid it sure was nice to have friends like that. With all the sales they could all just work for this one day a year. He grinned and said something like that. found out that they were all imports from China. Talk about feeling stoopie! The overflowing craft market of imports has precluded me from participating in any these days. How can I compete when these imports are everywhere. I love to create folk art. I love to sit and show folks how I sculpt without purchased tools and make do. That is the heart of American folk art. Like everything else, it has evolved, no morphed into less of a day out to make some pin money, eat funnel cakes and pork chop sandwiches,
Sigh. What a big mouth I can have! And oh Laura, hate to drive those mountain roads. Yep, that's really what we call the kiss your butt curves. Can't believe how semi trucks can do it.

Trish, I have online friends that do a few big craft shows not far from you. Not all quilting but folk art, furniture - I don't know if they have already had them, prices would be from low end to what did you say, doubletake! I would love to go. I will let you know when and where.

It is a shame that while I have plenty of land it is hills and hollas so I wouldn't be able to accomodate traffic or parking. It would be great to do a flea market or craft festival just from folks I know online.
Patti, hope you get everything accomplished that is on your plate. You sound so much like me! I love to do for my daughter.

I used to never understand the old maxim of "a boy is yours until he takes a wife, a daughter's yours all of her life'. I do understand it now. Boys ususally take up with their wife's family a bit more because it it their daughter. Of course, one of my son's lived in NY state and the other in another town 50 miles away. Oldest one will email or call dutifully a few times a year, sigh, and Middle one comes around when he needs some extra $$ or a real honest to goodness home cooked meal. My daughter is like a growth on my body. Her hubby is like a son to me. If I don't get to see my daughter because of our work hours or mine, she is on the phone to me. Later today we will do our grocery shopping together. Whenever possible my Sis joins in. We all finish each other's sentences and my hubby calls me the navel of the family.

Waves to everyone else. Will check in later if I can. Hugs =- late here already. Yikes~

Re: Sunday Oct 10th...chat,laughs and the only day that is 10-10-10

Morning everyone. I slept like a log. Never woke up until 9:30. My parrot Tara was not a happy camper as I get her out each day at 7a.m. She always has food in her cage and fresh water but she won't eat it. It has to be her perch food or nothing! She is such a spoiled brat. But funny and sweet. Of course she could rip my face off if she chose to. She hasn't attempted to yet and she's 15 so I doubt she will now.
Laura, I'm glad you survived yesterday. Rest after your family leaves. And have a wonderful day today. As for people's creativity it was out sourced to India and china. lol
Patti, you are right, we want what makes our kids happy but it makes you wonder why they can't want what we want once in a while. lol Oh well, I know we have to let go. I love it though when the boys come home and the first thing they do is go to the fridge and look for my food. Lol "Oh mom, you made this and didn't call me. No, You live in Va John, I didn't think you'd be here in time for dinner. Then Joe says but I was. No, You were at the girls soccer game. And you worked a night shift. They think home should stay the same too. If you move an inch they want to know why. Doesn't matter to them that we let go so they could have a life, they expect our lives to remain the same too.
I think I liked it better when houses were huge and 3 generations lived there. Maybe a lot noisier but you could always find a room to be quiet in. It's too quiet here most of the time. Even with a bird that yells at the dog.
And Patti, I will never move. After collecting things for 35 years, they should just make it a museum when I die. The messy museum, where some people can't seem to get rid of anything cause they might want to do that again. I am so bad. My DIL had it right when she and Joe moved into their nice new home. She said," They will have to rip the key form my cold dead hand before I move again". LOL
Trish don't you just love doing day care for church. And then we kiss the ground they walk on cause we don't have to go home and do that again for a while.lol
Shelia have you run across sis yet? I'm wondering what she's up to. Bridgett's making stars so I don't think she has her in captivity anywhere. Hope she's ok.
Trish let me know how Odie made out in the pool.
Have a happy day ladies. And Laura, take a nap! Love you, Jan

You are so right Blondie. When I made sweaters for people we got 30.00 bucks a piece but then China sent 10.00 sweaters and people expected you to do one of a kind special sweaters for 10.00. They wanted their kids names on things. That is one thing I refused to do. Kids forget they have their name on something and anyone could walk up and say the kids name and Mom wants you to go with me. These were little kids 4 and 5 years old. What are people thinking? One lady said ok I'll pay more. I said you could pay me all the money in the world I still won't set your kid up for a predator. She left and found someone else to do it. I refuse even now. More so now. You are right it is hard to make things with your heart and then to get stomped on by China. They have no pride. But then we let them take it from us. We gave away our creations in this country. We gave the vcr to Japan. And probably the cd players too. We gave tv away to Japan and china. All of the out sourcing has to stop. People who were creative, gave up making new things. Why bother when it's going to be stolen or given away.
Ok, I have had my soapbox for the day. Jan

Oh Suzi! Nooo! I hope it's not broken! I guess that is why they invented makeup.

I am in agreement with you all. A lot of the craft fairs aren't so much handmade anymore. We have had better luck shopping at the farmer's markets, and even then I have had to keep an eye on quality. I want something that has been made to last if I am going to spend the money on it. I am all about supporting the locals, but if the products aren't made of good materials or workmanship why should I pay a premium price for them if they are going to fall apart as quickly as something I got from the dollar store? This is why I make a lot of my own stuff.
We have one or two holiday craft fairs that are pretty good. The managers have really been strict that the goods be handmade. The big one at the ritzier high school has some really great artists. I have found some really nice Christmas gifts there in the past. This year I won't have the budget for it though, so I probably won't go so I am not tempted.
We aren't moving, but I have been on a purging of the house. I think it has been spurred on by my addiction to watching the TV show "Hoarders". I don't have anywhere near that much stuff, but it does make me want to clean my house and get rid of things we aren't using. We moved in here about 5 years ago and we still have stuff in boxes, and they have not been opened. Some of them are photos and reference type books, but other boxes contain clothes from his high school days. As much as I love him, my husband will never fit into a size small again. It is time to let some of those things go.
I am still working on my sewing space. I think I have my sweetie agreeing to put up my shelf today. Yeehaw! Someplace to put my quilting books and other little things! I'd like to have a few more, but one is a good start. Since I only paid a buck for it in the cull lumber bin at HomeDepot, I am willing to wait for another great find like that. The braces will cost more than the board!
Laura, I am glad your company wasn't too taxing on you. I am doing fine, just a bit more alert.
Patti: I'm with you on sore, mine was from moving manure and not boxes though! I hope you are feeling better.
Well, I had better get with it before I waste the entire day at the computer!

Check in with you all later!
