    Hi..New Member in PA!

    Hi everyone!
I have been quilting with a charity group for the past 2 1/2 years and I really enjoy MSQ and the projects and tutorials.
I want to do some of the table runners but I want to machine quilt them. I have a Kenmore machine that is older but easy to use and reliable but I cannot drop the feed dogs on it : / Can anyone tell me if using a walking foot would work for machine quilting small projects? Any advice would be much appreciated : )

Welcome to the forum from Missouri. The walking foot works well if you are quilting straight lines or stitching in the ditch. Are you sure you can't drop your feed dogs? I have hear of taping an index card over feed dogs for FMQing when the dogs can't be dropped. I've personally never tried this, so it would be a good idea to test it on a scrap before stitching on your good runners.

Hey Gourdy and Welcome to the Forum from Texas! And yes, taping an index card over the feed dogs works just super on my old Singer, but your walking foot, as Bubby noted already, works too for more simple straight line quilting. Hope you enjoy!

Hi Linda.....welcome to the forum. I have an older Kenmore also. If you have a darning plate....I think that was the name......you can put that over your feed dogs. Leah Day has a great video on adapting a darning foot for FMQ.
