Hello,
my name is Ursula, I'm 52 and live in a small town near our capital city, Bern. For the last 22 years I've been running a "Hotel Mama".
When I started joining bits and pieces of fabric (blouses and shirts from thrift shops, fabric brought home from holidays, old bedlinen... )35 years ago, I did get some rised eyebrows. At that time, old ladies would knit or chrochet granny squares. And they would most certainly not purchase their yarn second hand!
My first quilt was made in metric measurements. I used loads of pins and had no cutting mat or rotary blade. I'd easily finish 3 quilts nowadays in the time it took to do this one. Who said that the sum of our errors is called experience? Soon I abandoned the metric system because nothing beats a quater of an Inch, not even a scant quater of an Inch :-)).
Since I came across Jenny and her tutorials I must admit the second hand aspect is on the recline. I surrendered to the beauty of MSQC's pre cuts. Nothing beats a well balanced Layer Cake or Jelly Roll.
My favourite pattern is the double slice. Take a Layer Cake, Jenny's tutorial et volà!
