    Hi, from New York

    Hi,

My name is Alisa and I'm in NYC. I have just begun quilting. I'm looking forward to learning and gaining experience and my goal is to make a big quilt soon.

    Any tips?

    Alisa

Welcome from upstate. My advice is to start small and work up to a big quilt. This is a great forum.

        Welcome from California.
I would suggest you try an easy pattern like rail fence or disappearing 9 patch or the single Irish chain. I would suggest you make at least one smaller quilt (crib or lap size) to practice quilting on. Are you planning to quilt your big quilt on your home machine? Or will you send it out to a longarm quilter? Be aware that the bigger the quilt, the more difficult to quilt on a standard home machine. It's entirely doable, as you can see from the quilts posted here, but it does take practice.
Good luck, this is an addicting hobby but so much fun.

Welcome from England and go for it! My first quilt was a jelly roll race one. I just couldn't decide what to do first and knew I could be months or even years deciding!

thanks! By big, I meant more than a washcloth size, lol!

I ordered two jelly rolls from the store. I hope they ship soon!
