    Hi from Japan

Hi. I am from UK , now living in Japan over 15 years. Just started quilting after I decided to use some gorgeous fat quarters that I had bought over 10 years ago at the Tokyo Quilt Festival!. Went again this year and was totally inspired to give it a go.

Found MSQ online, I love Jenny's tutorials and now I am addicted to it. I usually have a cat or two sat around trying to help as I sew. I was worried about the quilting part after the 'fun part' of putting the design together, but I managed quilting in the ditch on my first single quilt and loved trying free motion quilting on a small table topper. (inspired by Leah Day's tutorials) Fabric expensive and not such a range as the Us, so asking friends to bring me jelly rolls/charm packs back with them when they visit the US .

      Welcome from Florida -

What is it about cats and quilters? Seems we most all have one or two that have to supervise when we sew!

Hi Maria! Welcome to the forum! Some of the most amazing quilts entered in the Paducah, Ky. AQS Quilt Show are from Japan. I can just imagine the beautiful quilts seen at the Tokyo show, plus so many high end quilt fabrics are made in Japan. Plus so many high quality machines are made there. So, Japan must be a wonderful place for quilters!

                        Re: Hi from Japan

Thanks everyone. Here in Japan, they seem to do more handwork, appliqué , and there were so many 'art' quilts at the Quilt show. I don't think I have patience to do that. I like machine piecing. They sell lovely Japanese fabric, I guess I should investigate how to make the use of 'local' products.... The quilts I saw at the Tokyo Quilt show-I would love to see if I can post them here so you can see them- I have no idea if you would usually see this type or not in the US. Thanks for the welcome.
