I'm another "so new I haven't even started" quilter. Have always been interested in handwork. Cross stitch, canvas embroidery (aka needlepoint), lacemaking -- anything that doesn't require a sewing machine. I can make a computer jump through hoops but sewing machines? They skeered me! I have a long time collection of antique quilts and have always said "some day" I'll learn how.
I have a Singer 15-88 treadle that I inherited from a favorite aunt when I was 15 years old. Have dragged it hither and yon over the years. Made curtains and baby things over 40 years ago but it was basically just a side table. Put it in the storage shed several years ago when I moved. Decided now is the time to do something and found a place for it in the house last summer. The dry Colorado climate had done a number on the finish and the legs so I took it apart and cleaned the head and refinished the cabinet and the steel straight legs. She's gorgeous again. Just need to get a new belt. In reading and starting to learn about my new interest, I decided I wanted a Singer 301A. Didn't expect to find one any time soon. So of course, last weekend we were at an auction and there it was. I've gone through and done a thorough COA. Now if I can just get the tension set correctly, I'll be all set. I fiddled with it a bit ago until the air turned blue so I decided to visit here to take a break LOL
I thing what I want to learn first is hand quilting and applique. At least right now
I'm also interested in crazy quilting. I had a CQ top from an estate sale that I had packed away many years ago. Got it out a while back and decided the fabrics were too fragile with age to work with. May frame some of the sturdier portions. We shall see.
Okay, too long already but just wanted to say HI
