    Hello from Minnesota

My name is Annette and I live in northern Minnesota. I have always been a "crafter" and there are not many that I have not at least tried. Crochet is one of my favorites. Recently, my good friend (and also my new quilting mentor) Gina, who is also a member at this site, helped me complete my first quilting project (an around the block table runner) and I was instantly hooked on quilting! After I made my first table runner I was ready to try my hand at a quilt so I made a twin size four patch quilt. I learned a lot of lessons along the way such as:

    1. I really should have paid closer attention in math classes all those years ago. Who'da thunk that a PHD in math would be a prerequisite for quilting?!?!?

    2. Straight and accurate cutting and seams really DO matter.

    3. Patience, patience, patience! Something I am not good with. Every one I know can attest to the fact that I'm a "will you just get to the point already" kind of person. Quilting has definitely put my patience to the test.

    4. Despite all the imperfections (crooked patches, stitching in the ditch that ran a bit wild and left the ditch, and goofy looking mitered corners), the sense of accomplishment is amazing. I love my first quilt!

I've spent some time on the site viewing everyone's working and reading through the posts. I am SO impressed and my compliments to all the quilters that have posted the work they've done. I look forward to meeting everyone.

Hello Annette, My name is Jan Luna and I'm from Western NY in the Finger Lakes Region.
It is wine country. Mostly a farming community and I love it here. Canandaigua is an indian name from the Seneca meaning "the chosen spot." And it is. We live about 5 minutes from Canandaigua Lake.
I'm more or less a beginner at quilting. I have yet to make a bed quilt. Most of my things are table runners, tote bags, wallets, pillows, and I have a wall hanging almost completed. I still have to quilt it. I took a hand quilting course and I love it. It is very calming and it calls to me every time I walk by.
Watch the tutorials and you will learn from Jenny how to do things you didn't think you would ever make, like for instance, a Dresden plate. It looks so complicated but Jenny makes it so easy. She and her family are amazing. You will love it here. Everyone is so nice and helpful. Jenny teaches a course on Sympos.com about how to use the precuts and the course is well worth the money. I love the precuts. Well, have fun with the site and have fun quilting. As Jenny says, "You're gonna love it!" Hugs, Jan L

Welcome, welcome, welcome. How great to share your personal lessons learned list. A lot of things on it that I am still attempting to conquer.

Have fun here. There are many friendships to be made.

            Hi Sandy,

Thanks for the welcome! I wouldn't say that I have conquered any of those things and I'm not sure that I will ever fully grasp the amount of math required to calculate yardage, etc. I'm just more aware of my weaknesses now than I was before I started.

Hello Jan and thanks for the welcome! It sounds as if you live in an awesome part of the country. I have watched many of the videos and you are right, they are VERY helpful and leave me with the sense that I can totally do this. I haven't tried any of the pre-cuts yet. Are there any specific pre-cuts that you would recommend and if so, what type of project would you recommend to use the pre-cuts with?

Shhhhhh! I haven't told Gina yet that I have designated her to be my official mentor This site has been really helpful and I love how everyone shares tips and advice. Even as a newcomer I can sense the fellowship amongst the members here. Also, the video tutorials are great!
