I work 4 days a week in a busy emergency department as a Registered Nurse. I was born and bred in South Australia and I cant imagine living any where else, we live about half an hour away from the Barossa Valley which is a lovely wine growing area.

I started quilting last year and an now well and truly hooked, I have a ridiculous amount of fabric which I now have to use up.. well make a dent in any way. I have always done some sort of craft or another, I used to sew when the children were younger but I did not do any for a long time, but I took it up again to make some clothes from my grand daughter. I bought an embroidery machine so I could make some cute items, I then decided I needed someplace to put the embroidered pictures so I started to make quilts, the quilt in my Avatar is my first quilt which I made for my DGD.
Hi Leonie: I am a newbie just getting to know everyone by going through 6 years of "Introduce yourself to the newbie" posts. I noticed everyone has a neat saying or quote at the end of their posts. I love yours! Too true. :-)

I’m Beth and I’ve been quilting for about 2 years. I love it and all the new friends I’ve made! I’m hooked. I’ve decided it is time to upgrade my sewing machine. I don’t want to spend more that 7 or 800.00 I think. I’ve been looking at the Bernina 330 se. not sure if I should get it, or wait til I’m ready to spend lots more and get a quilting edition like the570 qe. I’ve done my quilting on a friend’s long arm, but would like to be able to quilt small projects like a runner on the new machine. Does anyone have the 330 se or have any suggestions? I’m not completely hooked on a Bernina either. Is that the best brand? help!

Hi, my name is Carol. I am a native Hoosier but have lived in Milwaukee and in Downingtown, PA for brief periods of time. In 2011 I moved to California, near San Diego.

I have been making quilt tops for many years but there is always so much to yet learn. Nowadays I make quilt tops for 2 Prayers and Squares Quilt Ministry groups so I like the tops to be fairly easy and fairly small. I appreciate the tutorials on this site for giving me lots of ideas for new designs.

As for my personal life, I am single again and this year I turned 75. I have 3 adult sons, 1 teenage grandson and 2 little granddaughters. Only one son & his son live close by. I miss being able to see the long-distance families as often as I would like.

My mom & aunt crocheted. I learned how to knit in college. Then I began to do different forms of embroidery. Counted cross stitch was my passion for many, many years. I also sewed clothing for myself and for my boys. All those forms of handwork have been pretty much set aside for now -- mainly because of having arthritis in my hands. I am amazed at how I can still use a rotary cutter & make as many quilt tops as I do to bless people in need.

Hi, my name is Joline (I feel like I just said my name in a Fabric/quilters Annomous meeting) and yes I am a fabric and quilting addict and have a great stash and not too many unfinished projects, but lots of patterns with the material to go with it and not done!
I live in Shelton, Washington, which is near Seattle, in a beautiful part of our country! My husband and I have been married for 22 years (second marriage for both of us). We were missionaries in Haiti for 16 years and amazing journey! I have 3 grown children (2 boys and 1 girl) and 4 growing grandchildren (1 girl and 3 boys). My grandaughter lives in VA....too far away, but we have fun when we are together. We only have 1 dog, he is a great combo of English lab and German Shorthair, he is 9 years old, dark brown and weighs 90 lbs. great companion.
I have been quilting since the late 80's, but have been sewing since I was young. I remember sitting underneath the quilter's working on top stitching (by hand) their quilts at my grandmother's church. It was a young introduction, but a vivid memory. I did mostly regular sewing of clothes, shirts, pj's, dresses etc....until my best friend (who belonged to a quilter's guild) took me to a quilt camp for a weekend.....hooked! It was amazing what these women where doing with scraps of fabric and I was immediately hooked on color and fabrics! My favorite fabric are Batiks.....I do sew with other types of fabric, but not too often anymore. I enjoy making quilts, runners, wallhangings, for my friends and family. Everyone seems to enjoy receiving things and often request what they want. Quilting is relaxing for me and I can not imagine my world without it.
I too am addicted to Jenny's tutorials and daily specials....(like I need more material, patterns and sewing goodies!). I am not sure why I joined this forum, I have never joined one before, but am looking forward to meeting new people and finding out where this takes me. I'm glad that I found Missouri Star Quilting Co.
    Joline

Hello Teri and welcome to the forum... my oh my you got bit big time by the quilting bug. I started about 3 years or so ago, simple search for Christmas tree skirt and there was Jenny and her tutorial. And the rest as they say, is history. To me quilting is much more therapeutic than garment sewing for sure.

Re: Let's tell all our newbies a thing or two...

    Hello All,
I'm a newbie to this blog, but not to MSQC. I'm Teri from Northern Cali, 55 yrs old. I have 2 grown kids, 30 and 29 they're the loves of my life, and my furry babies - 2 Doxies, and 1 great mastiff. I've been quilting for the past 9 yrs. I became obsessed with fabrics, all colors, all designs, all widths and lengths. It started with me wanting to sew together a few aprons for Christmas cookie baking with my daughter and my sister-in-law. A room full of fabric later - its moved into hoarding... and what do you do with a room full of fabric you might ask.. well if you're me, you find Jenny quilting classes on Craftsy, and become hooked on learning to quilt. So that 1 video gave me the idea to make a quilt for my son when he was in the Army in Germany. I made a Halloween based quilt in a fence rail pattern (as I now know it). I was being simple and creative - no patterns and I didn't dig any deeper on pinterest or youtube. I figured out the squares pattern and the size - then cut everything with scissors (I hadn't discovered rotary cutters) and my Daughter and I whipped that together in a weekend. I was hooked for sure. Next project was a baby quilt in gray and white with elephants - simple and soft - for a baby shower gift.

Then more hoarding and browsing all of Jenny's videos, stocking up on patterns, templates, and rulers, oh and buying a long arm machine and I'm completely obsessed. (Did I mention I converted my formal living room and Dining room into my sewing den? We never used those 2 rooms ever - win win!) Then getting my Sister-in-law involved and we're out of control (like that's a bad thing).

I look forward to meeting and talking to my fellow quilters, sharing and getting advice, and enjoying your projects and ideas.
