Newbie from FL that LOVES MSQC''s tutorials!!

Hi everyone!

I've been watching the tutorials from MSQC for awhile now.. and have learned so much!

I'm not in any sort of guild, and none of my friends quilt... but I was blessed with a Mother and Great Grandmother that quilted and shared some of their knowledge with me. I've only "completed" <hearing my mother's voice say "It's not a quilt until it's quilted"> ahem, I've only finished one full size and a few baby quilts...
My first UFO was a king size log cabin that my Mother and I began 20+ years ago, I was hand quilting that. I got bored very quickly and decided quilting wasnt for me and it has been in a box in the attic for 20 years. One day I will pull it down and try to complete it.

About a year ago, I was finally able to bring my mother's sewing things to my home. (She passed 4 years ago, but I couldn't bring myself to move her machine or sewing things, my dad would say "not to worry, they will be here when you are ready") God love him!
To make a long story short, she had many blocks made, some partial tops complete... needless to say, I completely caught the quilting bug going through her things. I still haven't brought myself to finish my Mother's blocks or quilt tops, but I will one day.

In the meantime... I am getting so inspired by this forum and the tutorials for beginners, I have been lurking on this website for quite a few months and can not figure out how I didn't discover this forum sooner!!

Quilting will be very special for you! I am glad that going through your mother's things caused you to catch the bug as it will make it all that much more special.

And if you don't like quilting...that's ok. That's what longarm's are for! I like designing and piecing best myself!

My story is much like yours although my Mother is still alive ........... if that makes sense.

Thanks for the warm welcome Hillbilly, and I agree that sewing/quilting will be very special for me, sort of theraputic... it makes me feel close to my mother.... if that makes sense.

And Suzi, to answer your question... YOU BETCHA!! This will be my first..and I'm so excited!!

I live an hour outside of Jax, commute there daily for work. So I may go every day!! hehehe

Hi Lynn and welcome to the group!

I'm the only quilter in my family and have learned as I go. I have only completed three quilts and a wall hanging, but have several tops in various stages. I hand quilted one of them and machine quilted the wall hanging. I enjoyed the hand quilting but I don't think I would be able to do that on all my quilts-I'd run out of time!! Just enjoy yourself!

You'll love it here! and don't mind Sheila, she's good at scaring off new folks w/her faces (emoticons) (you'll have to see the thread on the new person from Florida/Connecticut that she scared off! I am only kidding and LOVE giving her a hard time about it!)

Hi there Lynn. You've come to a great place for quilting. We all have a ball here. There are so many different skill levels here, so you'll be able to get an answer to your questions. BTW there are some crazies here, lol. Just joking. Enjoy!!!!
