Another hot day and I'm not just talking about the weather. They closed off part of the street for a giant sale. There were people selling all sorts of things - soap, perfume, bags, clothes, knives, Tupperware, vegetables, even puppies. I found two small insulators, ate a pork burger made by the lions club, and chatted with the guy selling pumpkins. My number was called in the layer cake walk and I won a nice jelly roll. Shopped a bunch, then sat in on a demo by Natalie Barnes using her new fabric line (we all got a charm pack of it! )
Jenny and Rob (Man Sewing dude) had a little sewing competition. They had one hour to make something and it could not be something they have made before. Fabric was flying, trash talk was rampant.... Rob made a duck with a zippered head and a nest with 8 eggs. Jenny made a cute runner, then made Rob a cap. Then she made a cape with the letter J on the back, askirt, belt, bandana scarf hat, and a necklace made from a thin strip of fabric threaded through an orange peel template. It was fun. They played some great music while we watched. The crew behind Jenny and Rob got to cutting up by dancing and singing their hearts out. It was so funny.
Rested a bit in Man's Land. I felt odd there, so I had to apologize to every man that came in. They all just laughed. Talked for a while to a nice guy and then his wife. She lives near St Louis and doesn't quilt, but she does make pillowcases! Gloria (kensington) came in and she showed her some of her quilts. I think she's a convert. Hopefully.
Stayed till 5 when they did another raffle of a quilt for the county food pantry. Some one else won the quilt, but Marilyn won a template set valued at over $200! Then I won the same set! How awesome. Then I won another prize! I felt greedy so I gave my ticket to the lady sitting next to me. It was a nice quilt kit. She thanked me profusely, I was happy for her. I think I got the better prize.
Then back at our motel, we gathered for the great pizza party. Judy USMC and her husband ordered pizza and wine. The manager of the Motel gave us a big bottle too. And Seaturtle brought cokes and beer. Lttle Jean dropped by and brought two wonderful pans of apple crisp. Yum yum. I think there were 19 of us. We did go around and introduce ourselves - real name, home town, screen name. Jean Anne (livestoquilt) kept saying "oh you're the one" She scares me! Lol. Lots of first time retreaters, and lots of repeaters. All fun people and the retreat hadn't even started yet!
I left them all gabbing. They are probably still down there.
