I'm a newbie and need your help

I saw the video about your store on the news. I would like to make a baby quilt for a girl. Can you give me a suggestion of a book that will take me step by step in sewing a quilt?
    I would appreciate any assistance
    Thanks

Elaine - rather than a book, I would suggest you go up to the top of this page and click on "Quilt Tutorials". Jenny has some great beginner tutorials including a two part baby blanket one that takes you from the beginning; choosing fabric and etc, to the end. There are also awesome tuts on binding and every other step of the process. I learned about 80% of what I know by watching these tutorials. I was totally new to quilting 18 months ago and now have quite a few blankets and a couple quilts under my belt. Also if you run into confusing parts in the tuts, just ask questions on the forum here and all the Wise Oldies will come to your rescue in a flash. So glad you've joined us here. It is a great forum.

I echo Lilly! Watch the tutorials, do it several times through, and then, watch a portion, pause it, and do that part, rewinding and pausing as needed, You CAN do this! And Welcome aboard!

Welcome! I find Jenny's tutorials one of the best resources around. I'm also a newbie. I took a class at a local quilt shop. I have learned more from Jenny and the people who post here than I did in the class. It's funny you mention a baby quilt. One of my very good friends and neighbors are expecting their first great grandbaby in a few months. I'm thinking of making a quilt for them to give to the baby. They will be shocked, I tease them I cheer for the child catcher in the movie Chitty-Chitty Bang-Bang.

Welcome to the forum, and welcome to quilting.
I hope you have a wonderful time learning and making your quilt.
Besides all the wonderful tutorials from MSQC, talk to your local quilt / fabric shop. When I decided to jump in to this I went in search of a quilt store and ended up in a sewing shop in town (small town). A very small shop I think mostly for selling machines, but they do have a very SMALL amount of fabric. There was a very nice woman working on a project that taught me how to make the block she was working on and let me sit there and sew a few blocks to make sure I had a handle on it. She was very helpful and answered all my questions.
That's just another option to get you started.
            Happy sewing!
            Cheers!

Re: I'm a newbie and need your help

I agree with all of the video advise. I did my first quilt by myself and then found Jenny's tutorials and she shows step-by-step how to make all kinds of quilts. But, if you do want a book also, she has a new magazine (kinda like a book) that you can order or subscribe to. It also shows her step-by-step instructions. If I were you, though, I would start with the videos.
