The United States is home to some 700 species of butterflies; 14 of them are listed as endangered or threatened by the U. S. Fish and Wildlife Service.

RIP pretty butterflies :-(

For those that remain I'd suggest you plant a butterfly bush. They love them. Although I rarely saw them anymore when I moved here. I now have Monarchs coming to the bush I planted two years ago. (It has also been attracting the large yellow and black butterflies). Up in Canada we saw them often because we had plenty of milkweed on portions of the property. I've tried planting milkweed here but have not been successful.

Beautiful butterflies. So sad that they're now extinct.

Sad to hear about the extinction of beautiful butterflies. I have flowers that they seem to be attracted to. Love them, but there seems to a lot fewer than when I was younger.
