During her 66-day journey aboard the Mayflower in 1620, Elizabeth Hopkins gave birth to a son.

She named the baby Oceanus, which seems appropriate for a baby born at sea. He died when he was about 6 years old.

Shortly after the pilgrims arrived in New England, as the ship lay anchor, Susanna White gave birth to a son she named Peregrine, from the Latin for traveler. In later life he became a person of note in Plymouth Colony, active in both military and government affairs.
