Who named the clouds?

An English pharmacist called Luke Howard named the clouds. An avid sky-watcher, he published his system for classifying clouds by their shapes and characteristics in a scientific journal in 1803.

Cumulus, from the Latin for "heap," is a dense clump. Cirrus, meaning "lock of hair," is wispy and fine. Stratus, meaning "layer," is a flat blanket of cloud.

Interesting. I've always been a cloud watcher. It became useful when I started sailing as one element to read the weather.

Now DH has to learn the clouds for gliding.
