Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

We associate that motto with the U.S. Postal Service, mainly because of the post office building on Eighth Avenue in New York City.

Architect William Mitchell Kendall of the firm McKim Mead & White selected that passage from "The Persian Wars" by Herodotus to be inscribed above the building's main entrance. It refers to Persian couriers from the 5th century B.C., but since the building's completion in 1914, it's been linked to the USPS.

Neither rain nor sleet nor hail shall stop me from delivering the mail.

I'm always amazed when I see our little mail truck coming down the street and the street is practically impassable. Our mailman delivers all our mail all the time. I tell and show him often that he is appreciated.
