View Full Version : Thursday has arrived

Good morning friends. It is still dark here right now but I believe we will see the sun today. I have a dentist appointment at 8:30 this morning. Not sure what is happening after that.

I finished the top of the memory quilt AND I have enough 6 1/2" squares to make an additional twin as well. So I need to get the top sandwiched and figure out how I am going to quilt it. At first I thought big stitch hand quilting but I may just do crosshatch instead. I will get pictures posted later. So I shall keep plugging away at these two quilts that need to be finished soon.

Have a great day everyone.

Good mornin Monique and all....

How exciting Monique to finish your memory top! Happy for you and so looking forward to seeing it!

Sigh.....we are in for another snow event.....gulp.....10" - 12"!!!!! Yup, I said that right, nearly a foot! I'm so sore and tired from these last two shoveling that I haven't been able to sew like I want. My machine calls for me.....a hear her whisper and sob.....to no avail.....I ache. I try, but have to stop after a short time.

Spring? Where are you? Sob.....I want.....need....a sign......and it can't be SNOW!!!!! Sigh.....I can't stop it, so I only hope that the weather gurus are wrong.....

Well, the house could use some cleaning....not excited about it, but someone has to do it....

Well I hope y'all have a wonderful day in your neck of the world! Hugs and love to all.
Not forgetting Nancy's husband.....he has an appointment today to drain fluid from around a long and a biopsy. Big hugs!

Your little funny was great! Made me laugh on this bitter cold, icey and very dark Thursday morning in Pennsylvania! Always look forward to your missives and pics of your lovely work. Can't wait for this one.

Good morning all. It's a chilly one here today. Had a mix of weather yesterday for sure.... sleet, snow, rain, wind and this morning, ice on the roads. It should be fine by the time I leave for work though. I really don't want to go to work today..... or maybe not any day now. There are things happening there that make me angry and also brought me to tears the other day. It's just so upsetting how some people are treated. The atmosphere and culture of the agency seems to be changing ... and not for the better in my opinion. Retirement is calling my name more loudly now. I had been planning on retiring at some point this summer (like July) and then I started thinking that would leave people right in the middle of the planning for the October breakfast event. So I was considering staying until after the event in October. Now I'm not so sure. The people causing all this stress are not the ones running the event in my department so I feel I would be deserting them and they didn't do anything to upset me. In fact, I am sure that once the news gets out, they will be just as upset. But, can I add 2-3 more months to my tenure there? I just don't know. DH is being very supportive and telling me that if I want to leave earlier to go ahead and do it but there are financial reasons why I want to stay until after June and I'd like to stick to that plan at least. I have already been organizing my files, getting rid of things that there is no need to keep anymore, writing directions and guidelines for all the tasks that I do for whoever steps into my place, etc. My predecessor left a binder for me and I definitely appreciated it and would like to do the same for my replacement.

But enough about that. Today the Olympics start. Well, opening ceremonies aren't until tomorrow but there are a few events on tv tonight and I'm looking forward to watching them. I have been able to have more time for sewing the last few days and that makes me happy. My precious Zeke and I had a video "chat" the night before last and it made my heart soar. Now instead of just throwing me kisses, he comes right up to the screen and kisses it. :) We sang Twinkle Twinkle Little Star together and overall had a wonderful time together. This is definitely one area where I am thankful for today's technology.

I hope everyone has a good day today. Keep warm and safe all. Prayers for all of those who are dealing with rough times continue to be said.

Good Morning ~ We're supposed to have 60's today. Our weather sure has been a yo-yo lately. Glad we aren't getting nearly a foot of snow like Anita! Now that has got to be getting old! I probably will work more on the taxes today, maybe run the vacuum, & do more quilting. I did FMQ ~40 min. yest. eve. before the 2 hr. episode of The Amazing Race. I enjoyed seeing the wildlife on the game preserve in Zimbabwe. The next season of Survivor starts in 3 wks. Have a good day.

Good Morning All,

WHooo hooo for Monique! Oh noooo, for Anita (it's way too cold for me!), Ginny- I retired 'early', I had 29 years in and enough sick/annual leave to make the 30 for full retirement- those last two months were horrible. We'd moved in with Mom and it was so hard with her not sleeping and keeping us up all night. I hope you're able to ease into that retirement phase with little difficulties. I spent a day with my replacement and gave her all the advice I could. She told me later how much she appreciated all that I'd explained, she didn't realize how much information I gave her that she would actual need until she was in the class. Joy, DH never wanted to watch the Amazing Race or Survivor so after a while I quit watching. I just may have to click them on again. There's not that much to choose from on Wednesday nights. Thursday evenings, I watch Project Runway when it's on. Don't care for the language/ drama a lot, but I do love seeing how their minds wrap around the challenges and what they produce in such a short amount of time.

I spent the day on the phone yesterday making more calls, changing more accounts to just my name. The pension "life specialist" from GPC called yesterday. She said something about not getting the money back from the pension for Feb. Anyway, I called the bank, they hadn't gotten the deposit in the first place. So I called GPC back. The guy I talked to that time, explained from the notes the first person that called. I told him... that's NOT what she said to me! I get what he said. Dang, why do people have to make things so complicated!

Today is home school with J. Nana is doing better, I'm so thankful. Then we'll be faxing Death Cert. to two of the people I talked to yesterday. After that, it's shopping. I need new Sunday shoes- ones with comfort in mind. Tonight we'll have our normal Wed. night supper on Thurs, because the Father Daughter Dinner was last night at church.

My stack of paperwork for the lawyer is getting bigger, but it is what it is. I'll find out Tuesday what I haven't done and what I'm leaving for him to do. Going through 3 estates in NC, I'm about ready to let someone else have the headaches!

Well, I best get my driver out of bed so we can get this homeschool thing started!

Prayers for those in need: for healing, for comfort, for peace and for strength. Prayers of thanksgiving for all of our many blessings.

Be creative! I will be, we're making Valentine books today!

Ummm, shoveling snow. Sometimes I remember how much fun that was, but I was 35 and living in Utah and the snow was dry and the cold wasn't all that cold. And now I'm not 35 and the tractor plows the drive and I really don't miss it. Sorry you are sore. I do have sympathy.
Joy and Katrina...I remember watching Survivor in the beginning. I was so fascinated. I sent a video and wanted with all my heart to be on that show. I was selling herbs and spices at the time and I knew that I could win just because I could keep them alive with doing the cooking. That was before they provided them with enough food. I remember when they would catch one fish and they would spit cook it and share it with 8 people...I would have been making fish soup with rice and foraged herbs...anyway, my DH didn't like the program either so...guess what...we stopped watching. Maybe I'll tune in and just make it MY show to watch.
Ginny, your retirement is going to be great. Sorry to say, but they probably won't really miss you. Strange how coworkers just go on with their lives. I was sure that the people at the restaurant, customers and employees would miss seeing us...but...life goes on and retirement is fabulous. Time to get things clean, have more time to sew, and even time to be bored. It is wonderful.
Sun is finally shining today.
Yesterday we went to town...got the tires rotated, oil changed, got a motor for DH to fit onto his new machine, got some new lenses for DH's welding helmet and I even got him to look at some curtains for the bedroom. He said he didn't care what I picked out, but why didn't I make them. Then I showed him the price and he said....you can't make them for that, can you? He said he didn't really like them, but pick out what ever I wanted. THen when we got home he went in the bedroom and looked at the curtains and said, where did you get those? I told him. He said, when he said he didn't really like them, he didn't mean he didn't like them, just that it didn't matter because he never looked at the curtains and he didn't even know what the ones we had looked like....MEN!!
Last night I ironed pieces for about an hour. Today I will try to put the blocks together. Let me tell you, I don't know why this quilt is taking so long...seems like there are more pieces than most. I think there are just so many steps and I'm not even liking it so much

Well, it is 2 below here today but we expect to get 14 above. Yippee! My snow blower person came yesterday , so I do not have to shovel anymore, my retirement present to me!!! Ginny you will love retirement, I left one month before my birthday and had enough vacation time to get paid until then. Yes, I do miss my co-workers, but as said, life goes on and you are not a part of it anymore and must make an effort to continue relationships or make new, you have a choice. I am working on covers for my suit case handles, loud floral to stand out among other cases. I continue to be very nervous about my upcoming trip, but I did reach out to the airline yesterday, asking for some assistance in the terminal. Prayers for all in need.

Well I am finally able to sit down and enjoy a glass of wine. It was a busy day. Awake at 6:30, DH putting the garbage out. They pick up early but he couldn't put out last night as the snow plow would have buried it.

We did the driveway last night but we had to clear a bank this morning so I could get out. I had my hair appointment. She's 50 minutes in the country. Although I would not have attempted the drive yesterday, roads were clear and sunny today. I took an extra detour afterwards to a quilt store 20 mins from there. I made it home by mid afternoon with a new do.

I finished putting the borders on a charity quilt, but realized I had sewn one row upside down. Rip. Rip. Rip. Oh dang, I also ripped the fabric. Cut another piece and add it. Borders done. Then I worked on my friend's 3 Dudes quilt. A few more blocks. I am really started to NOT enjoy doing it. So I let myself get sidetracked by cutting the back for another quilt top that is finished. I will sandwich tomorrow. Maybe quilt on the weekend. We are getting snow for the next 3 days. Lots of quilting getting done.
