The world's oldest continuously operating post office is in the town of Sanquhar in Dumfriesshire, Scotland.

It's been handling mail since 1712, starting with the local nobility and eventually extending to ordinary folk including the Scottish poet Robert Burns, who lived in the area and was a friend of the postmaster.

It's not the world's first post office, but the one that's lasted the longest.

Sometimes I think all my important mail must be sent back there just to make certain it is official.
