View Full Version : I Need Ideas for Mini Quilts

September 16th, 2017, 06:45 PM
Our guild is having its annual quilt show next month. They plan to sell mini quilts this year. They're hoping to have 100 quilts to sell. Minimum size is width + height = 24" & max. size is width + height = 72". So a person can donate any quilt that is 12"x12" up to 36"x36" or anywhere in between. It could be a wall hanging, a small quilt, a table topper or runner, etc. I've been surfing the web & looked at a few YT tutorials, but I just can't come up with an idea that resonates with me. Any suggestions?

I think this would be a great time to try out some art quilts and not be quite so literal. Sounds fun!

What about doing ones for each holiday?

Do you have any of the mini templates M* has included with orders on special sale days? I made the tumbler flag using the mini tumbler template -- after washing, it came out to 14" x 9" without the border; finished size is 18" x 13".

There's a Facebook group called Kathleen Tracy's Small Quilt Lovers. KT is an author with numerous books out all on miniature quilts and I think she also had a website. There should be pics on both sites to give you some ideas.

Now, a couple of these are mug rugs, so too small, but I put them there for inspiration :)

Songbird, I really like your beach quilt.

There was a gal on here who did mini quilts, but I can't remember her name. She has several pictures and I think patterns posted. She even sent a template/ruler for free if you requested one.

I've recently become very addicted to minis. Caroline over at http://www.sewcanshe.com has been hosting a mini quilt of the month all year. A good variety of sizes, styles and techniques.

I just went to her web site but got a full red screen, with beeping alarm & Trojan alert. I quickly turned off my lap top. After re-booting, I ran a virus scan. I will not visit that site again.

Her mini of the month's are adorable. I see some becoming small table toppers and book shelf runners in my future. Thanks for the link to this site.

I had no issues with red screen, security or alarms. My son has the best virus scans on my laptop and keeps on top of it regularly.

Weird, JCY - I've been going to Carloline's site all year. No red screens, alarms, etc. and I have never had an issue with any sort of virus, trojan, etc.

Maybe it was because I went there from a link. I don't know. I later went directly to the site, & it was fine. My virus scan didn't show up anything. All seems to be ok.

It was RhondaRae who did the mini quilts. Looks like she has not been here in a year, but she did have several posts about it and I think there was also a group. Search for her and you may find it helpful.

Would doll quilts qualify? Little girls love them and would be great gifts for moms and grandmoms to buy for their little ones. Here's one I made for a neighbor using this tutorial. Memory is I might have had to adjust the border sizes a little.

I had the same problem Joy, but when I type it in manually, it was fine. Now it's bookmarked.

Katrina ~ I'm glad to know I wasn't the only one who had a problem from the link. Pretty weird, huh.

Thanks for the link to the doll quilt at polkadotchair.com. That's really cute. I do have some mini charms on hand, as well as many other pre-cuts that I could cut down. However, I think I would strip piece it & rearrange the fabrics for a good mix.
