Feeling pretty blue tonight. My dog has been doing badly, lost 20# in last six months, vet could find nothing wrong. Took him to a specialist today. Dx cancer of the spleen and buildup of fluid in the lungs. She said he wasn't in distress, thought he would be ok through the weekend but I should seriously think of putting him down in the next few days, probably next week. I was devastated. Had to go to work right after the appointment. Dh calls me at work, something he never does, says Mooch is really having difficulty breathing, seems to be in terrible distress, what should he do. I say I guess you need to take him to the vet and have him put down. **** my work anyway!! They have cut back on employees so drastically (I work in a hospital) that at that time of day I could not leave as we were down to one person on staff--me--and I didn't dare leave, seriously I would be fired, and I need my health insurance as you know my dh has cancer, so I couldn't go home for fear of getting fired. Well my dog died while my dh was on the phone those five minutes calling me to ask what to do. He was the best dog I ever had and I feel so incredibly bad that I wasn't there for him at the end. So here is a picture you can ask see what a pretty dog he was. He was almost 10 and we had him since he was a puppy.

I am so sorry for your loss. Mooch was a handsome dog. And please don't beat yourself up for not being able to be there. Your DH was there, so Mooch was not alone.

JJ I'm so sorry. It's never easy when we lose one of our furbabies. I'd like to think that Mooch knew his time was at hand and he didn't want to leave in a cold sterile vets office or to put you thru that process either, but instead wanted to go while in his home, the place that he has only known love and happiness.

Sending hugs your way.

I'm so sorry for your loss...so sad, my heart aches for you. I always believe that everything happens for a reason and at the right time. Not always the easiest, but I hope you don't beat yourself up about it. All was out of your control. Hugs and love across the miles.

What a sweetie. So sorry.

You had no choice in the situation. He knew his mommy loved him, and that is really all that matters.

Take good care of yourself.

So much better he died at home and you didn't have to make that decision.he was a great dog and companion. Honor him by getting a new puppy that will comfort DH in his illness and keep his life alive in your memories

Let me tell you a funny story... We have a McCaw parrot 31 years old. She's been with us through several dogs, cats, pigmy goats etc. About 20 years ago we had a little shizu puppy and the kids named her Annabelle. When I would go out of town I would take them both to a boarding kennel. Sammy the bird would stay in the office and Annabelle back in the dog runs. Each afternoon Sammy would start sceaming Annabelle's name to where the people would go get Annabelle for the bird. Well. Annabelle died in 2002 .
Recently youngest DH got a shizu puppy and brought him home to the farm. She took him to Sammy and she said "oh..Annabelle...I missed you Annabelle. It was so cute.

I am so very sorry to hear about your loss of Mooch and that you couldn't be with him. He knew how much he was loved. Please don't be too hard on yourself, it was an awful situation out of your control. He won't suffer anymore now and didn't have to suffer while waiting on you to be able to get home so that's a good thing. My thoughts are with you and your husband.

Oh my, I am so so sorry for your loss. They are our very best of friends with no strings attached. Such a beauty lost. He had a loving home to live in and died in arms of a loved one. Best of a bad situation. Hugs to you both.

I'm so very sorry. Our last two pets (a dog and a cat) were put to sleep and I didn't know about it either time until I got home from work. I was heartbroken that I didn't know and couldn't be with them at that time, so I understand your pain. Sending you prayers and hugs.

Oh Sweetie I'm so sorry!! That's just heartbreaking!! I can't imagine how upsetting it must be. Take heart in that you wouldn't have been able to get home in time even if you could have left. It is so heartbreaking losing our furkids. Sending you huge Hugs!! xoxox

I am so, so sorry. What you wrote brought tears to my eyes. Please, please know that no matter what happened your precious and beautiful dog knew that he was loved and cared for. Some dogs never, have that in their life ... ever.

I do understand a bit of how heart wrenching this is for you. We had a dog that I had brought to the vet who was ill. I thought she was going to be alright and that I'd be bringing her home that night. She didn't survive and I felt horrible that I wasn't with her or able to say good-bye to my love. But no matter what our pets DO know how much we love them. Sending hugs.

I am so sorry. Our pets are not just anima!s living in our home - they are so much a part of our family. Surely God blessed them with souls - after all, is there anyone or anything in this world that loves so unconditionally and selflessly as our pups and pets? So they must have souls and continue on. God bless you all.

I'm so sorry you lost your dear pup Mooch. Such a sweet face, and it sounds like he was one of the most special ones. So very hard on both you and DH to be discussing what he should do as your dear little dog passed on. You two have an awful lot on your plates these days.

So sorry for your loss. The bad thing with pets is they aren't with us as long as we would like and leave such a hole in your heart. I lost my soul mate Dobe two years ago and miss him every day but my memories of him and the goofy things he did make me smile and keep him warm in my heart.

I am sorry for you and DH. It's so hard to lose your Mooch, but it sounds like he was not in distress. He knew it was finally time. Don't beat yourself up for not being there when he passed. Mooch saved you and your DH from having to go through the process of making the decision to help him.

So sorry for your loss. I feel for you not being there but take heart knowing he knew he was loved, your husband was there, and you would not have made it in time even if you could've left work. Losing a pet is always heartbreaking. Our yellow lab will be 14 in July and we know we don't have a lot of time left with her. It's hard to even think about.
