Since we started on this ride w/MM and his bladder cancer, our house has been crazy! Emotions are running amok, he is more tired than normal (guess when you have two surgeries in two weeks that is to be expected!), we have been to the doctor more since the end of July than the past two years!

We have also been getting notes, cards, small gifts, and he even got a quilt!! I know he sent a thank you card for the quilt, because I bought him a card and watched write it and put a stamp on it, but for everything else, please accept this as a thank you! Your thoughts and caring have been more than I ever expected!! Each and everyone is greatly appreciated!

We saw the oncologist this past Friday and there are three different options for the chemo they will give him. The first two have a 20% rate of killing everything and the third, which is a more intense version of #2, has a 50% rate. That is the one the doctor wants to use, but because of MM's kidney issues, he has to talk to the nephrologist first to see if he can withstand it. Prior to chemo starting, which will be in about two weeks, he will have a port inserted, so that will be surgery #3 in a month. Once it does start, the doctor expects him to be very tired and sleep a lot, so I expect him to be going on disability sooner than we expected. At least his company has an excellent plan in place and they have already processed all the paperwork, so that is one less thing we have to worry about.

After the oncologist, we went to the lake. It was the first weekend it has been open since last Labor Day and we wanted to get away. Our daughters (with no children!!), Tyler and Jamie (Tyler's girlfriend) were up there. We got a lot of cleanup done and MM and Tyler got two new stands for firewood storage built and the old one ripped apart. Saturday afternoon, we knocked off about 3pm and got in the lake for a couple hours....that was so refreshing!

All that fresh air wears one out and I spent most of Monday napping.

Hope all is well in your worlds!

Pat, I'm so sorry that you and hubby are going through such a bad time. I have great faith in modern medicine and cancer treatments today. My dad had his first cancer at the age of 55. After nearly 10 yrs of remission, it came back, but he kicked it a second time and lived to celebrate his 89th birthday before passing after 34 yrs of remission. God will look over you both. I send my prayers and thoughts for healing.

Hoping that MM gets the ok for the stronger dose. Better to get as much help as he can against this crap. It is hard to believe that the lake as shut down for close to a year! I wonder if they had planned it taking as long as it did for all the work. Glad you were able to at least enjoy it a little this summer.

They knew the work would take a year, however they were not planning on a group of idiots suing the lake to try to halt the project! That delayed the start time to January!!! It is supposed to be done by October still. The water is all functional, up and running, but the electric is not yet. We borrowed a friends generator and we had a great cooler I bought for MM for Fathers Day and his 60th birthday. We put four bags of ice in it last Friday, and as of last night, there was still four bags of ice in it!!!

Hope all goes smoothly in MM's cancer treatment. It isn't a picnic or a walk in the woods. But with prayers and friends by your side, you guys will make it through!

Thanks for keeping us in the loop with MM updates. As long as he keeps eating his bananas and keeps that tail curled he'll whip this ugly beast.

So here I sit thinking Sandy has to be drunk......then I realized what you were getting at! I have to admit, I don't think I've ever seen that man eat a banana!

Thanks for the update. Glad you got to spend time at the lake. You all needed that break, mentally and physically. Yours is not an easy path. Know that you and MM continue to be in my prayers.

Pat, I have been praying for you and MM and will continue to pray. I am so glad to hear you took some time to do something fun and relax in the midst of all of this and I hope you will be able to continue doing that kind of thing to help you both in this battle. So glad you have each other to get through it and I know you will!

The cancer he has is stage two, TB2 is what I think they called it. That means it has spread from his bladder into the muscle. The doctors want to do the chemo for five months. After that, they think he is following their plan to remove his bladder, lymph nodes and prostate. For obvious reasons, he does not want that done. He does not want his bladder rerouted, causing him to have to wear some sort of bag and he does not want to lose his prostate. There is no way of knowing if the cancer has spread further, they say, unless they do the surgery. He wants to wait and see. I'm sure we will have many discussions about it.
