Hoot hoot! It's midnight in half an hour here...and my buddy has moved all his furniture out of our basement and garage to his new apartment, so it is looking a lot emptier here. I'm so grateful that he's got a friend with a pick up to help him move as just buying the furniture off Craigslist and moving it here in the hatchback of our Civic was enough moving for me. I hate moving!

I was trying to watch "The Painted Veil" on Netflix but got distracted with the moving and never got interested enough to continue watching it. I did watch "My Friend Rockefeller" which was interesting. It was about a fraud con man who was also a murderer...eek. And I was counted cross stitching, but I was making enough errors that I had to rip parts out. I guess I need more coffee!

How are the owls?

Checking in ... it's been a while since I've been able to get on the internet. My neighbor lets me in their network when I'm in Chicago but they went on vacation and turned their electric off therefore no router!

Posted a request for a vote for a local quilt shop to get a $2,500 bonus. The owner put so much time and effort into it just to have outside influences delay the opening which made them miss soooo much business.

Doing my Row by Row visits and getting my Northern Illinois Shop Hop pass stamped the past few days. Was going to go out again this weekend but with the heat advisory I'll delay a few days. So now there is housecleaning and laundry on the schedule. I also have to cut off the selvage edges from a couple of Moda scrap bags. Wonder if anyone has use for them ....

Keep cool.

Well I think I'm back to my normal routine now that my daughter's visit is over. It was fun having her back home for 2 weeks.

My son called the other day and said he's afraid his dog's time has come. Abe is a dalmatian and is 16 years old. He's been my son's dog since the day he found him. When he moved out Abe stayed with me but then when my so moved into a house with a yard, Abe moved up to his place. I missed having a dog, but at the same time I was glad to not have any pets.

So now Abe's back legs are failing him. He's falling and can't walk without help. And bodily functions are just a mess. Now he's not eating and drinking. So sad. I'm crying as I type. So we drove up to my son's and was with him as he took Abe to the vet. Gosh it's hard losing a pet.

That was Thursday and I'm still upset. My son is a mess but is trying to hold it together.

So today I sewed the binding on a quilt for my daughter and son-in-law. It's a king size quilt and I'm especially proud of it. So happy to have it finished and in a new home.

This weekend I've got another quilt to bind. I'm trying to get all my PHDs finished and out the door.

Oh, Snippet! {{{hugs}}} It is so sad to lose a pet. I have had pets in the family all my life and I still cry to think of losing them. Then I kinda think I wish somebody would put me out of my misery if I was that ill...but still, it's a sad thing. :(

Working up sweet corn right now. Today we have over 18 dozen corn ears which we started cutting off the cob when dh got off work tonight. Earlier this evening, the three children shucked all the corn ears in less an hour. Our night owl teenager is popping green beans which we will have some tomorrow and some we will freeze as there is not enough to mess with canning. On Wednesday night, we put up 31 cups of sweet corn. We are going to have to see how much we have from these ears to see if we are going to need to get more or if we are going to have plenty for the winter. With three growing children, they seem to eat tons. Plus, we also deal with having good years and bad years of crops. Corn seems to be good this year so we store up when we can. We have found that with peaches and apples, they alternate who has the good year as what the trees need to produce the best crops don't seem to match what the other fruit tree needs. So we are not sure which one we will have this year. Due to not canning last year, we could use both in the pantry as we have ran out of both. I know we could just run to the store and grab vegetables and fruit but there is just something so nice about canning your own. Even though we don't grow it, we at least know where it came from. Then there are the wonderful cold winter days when you heat up the corn and the smell is so sweet and fresh that it takes you back to July.

To say the weather is hot is to put it mildly. It is 12:41 AM here with the current temperature being 81 degrees and feels like 92 with the heat index. There was clouds building up and lightening off to the west so I am hoping for a rain shower that will be cooling and not making things worse. We are suppose to have one more day of the extreme heat before things start to cool off a little.

Kim and Judy, glad to hear from you. Carol, sorry to hear about Abe, he sounds like he had a grand life with your family. Joan, glad you are enjoying the visit from your Dad.

Have a Hoot of a weekend everyone :)

Hi Joan and owl friends,
can't winde down tonight, to many thoughts, going through my head.

Glad to see you all, it's been a while. The internet has been so in and out, I couldn't even get on today.... Making me frustrated, ..... I don't get on much these day's, anymore. So much, going on. Trying to get myself pulled back together, it's been a slow overwhelming process.

I miss getting to do my stress relieving, forum friending..... (ಠ_ಥ)

Seems to me there was somebody who posted on the forum that she wanted anybody's selvages, as she made quilts from them...can't remember who, though...and not sure what to use as a search term.

I watch PBS cooking shows at night. They made muffin tin donuts on Cook's Country and I had all the ingredients, so I whipped up a batch. They have a nutmeg-flavored dough and then are brushed with melted butter and rolled in sugar and cinnamon after baking. I'm not going to mistake them for real fried donuts but they are pretty edible :)
