I am wondering if you think this dress would look ok shortened to tea length, or is the bottom too full?

Thanks for your help.

I think it would look great. It's such a soft fabric. Where you going?

I think it would look fine shortened. One of the best one to ask is Jean.

It would be for my daughter's wedding. I don't want to wear a long dress b/c the wedding is at noon. I also think I would be more comfortable in a tea length dress.

Oh, and that's not the color I'd get. It's just the color they show it in.

I think it would be lovely shortened to tea length and perfect for a noon wedding.

It would be lovely as a tea length dress. A real bugger to shorten and get the hem straight! Good luck with that!

It will be difficult to shorten and you should get an estimate on having that done.

So Jean, I was thinking about driving down to St. Louis and having YOU do it!

j/k

Actually, they make these to order and now I'm wondering if I can ask the to make it shorter. I'll look into it. Thanks everyone for your input.

Update: Just looked into it. They won't make it shorter. So it would have to be done. Jean? Oh, Jean? :)

Maybe send the picture to a few alteration places to find out the cost. Do you have other options picked out?

Lorie, this is the only other tea length one from that place that works for me, but I'm wondering if it's too plain. I like the fact that it appears the top is actually more like a wrap. So I could probably buy other wraps if I wanted to. Another long one that I like:

I like this one in the front, but am worried the back might be too open for me. I'm not exactly skinny. :(A-Line/Princess Sweetheart Ankle-Length Chiffon Lace Mother of the Bride Dress (http://www.jjshouse.com/reviews/A-Line-Princess-Sweetheart-Ankle-Length-Chiffon-Lace-Mother-Of-The-Bride-Dress-008062564-cid8-p62564?page=3)

And I like this one, but am wondering if the pleating would look not-so-good on me.A-Line/Princess Scoop Neck Floor-Length Chiffon Lace Mother of the Bride Dress With Ruffle Beading (008062571) - JJsHouse (http://www.jjshouse.com/A-Line-Princess-Scoop-Neck-Floor-Length-Chiffon-Lace-Mother-Of-The-Bride-Dress-With-Ruffle-Beading-008062571-g62571?pos=best_selling_items_16#have_reviews)

And this is the last one I'll bother you with. This one seems like it has even more fabric to turn up.

Those are all pretty. Why don't you just go short and have fun with it.

I like that one Lorie. I'm a little worried the v might be too deep for me. I'll have to think about the length, b/c it is very close to what I want. Just a little shorter than I was thinking.

Great detective work! Don't worry you'll find a dress. Probably safer to find one that you can actually try on.

Wedding is in July. Thanks for your help everyone.

I will have to look a little harder locally. I just really liked all the color choices. But I don't want one that doesn't fit!

No bother at all! I love looking at these... This last one, believe it or not, is not so hard to shorten, because you would not hem the tulle per se; all you would do is cut it and leave it (look closely at the bottom of the dress). So all you would actually have to hem is just the underskirt.

My advice is that you find a tailor/seamstress in your area who can do the hem for you. You might even ask around at a bridal shop. Have a great time at the wedding - I know that you'll look gorgeous, whatever you pick!

And, fwiw, I don't think you have to worry about the back on the jacketed gown. It appears to have nice wide shoulder straps, and the jacket gives just the right amount of coverage. Have fun!

I agree. If you really like that dress, show it to someone who does alterations and ask what they would charge. If you're happy with what they say then order that dress.

So dresses seem to be flying out of the stores! I saw a dress online at Nordstrom's which a local store had in stock. Late last night I decided to order the size I thought would fit (they recommended going down a size down from measurements) in the color I liked (plum). I went ahead and paid for it online with store pick-up b/c I was concerned someone else would buy it online before the store opened this morning. The store also had the dress in my actual size but in a different color (slate) that I didn't like, but I figured I could try it on if the one I purchased was too small (and then order it in my color). I was at the store when the door opened at 10:00 a.m. I picked my dress up at the pre-paid counter, headed up to the dress department to try the two dresses on, and sure enough the slate dress sold overnight! It was gone! Lucky for me the plum one did in fact fit I've also ordered four dresses from Dillards to try on. Those of you who have Dillards in your area are SOOOOOO lucky. I love that store.

So, the pressure is off. I have a dress that will work, even if it's not my first choice of color or style. It's only one day. I can deal with it. Now the shoes for my big feet . . . ugh!

I find so many pretty dresses at Dillard's and now is a good time to find them on sale! And I shop in the larger size section! Found a killer dress for a special occasion for under $30 right at this time of year. Another great place is Ross For Less, they have great prices and fabulous prices.

Yea! I'm so happy for you. You will have a good time when you are comfortable what you are wearing.
