View Full Version : Good Sunday Morning to you

November 6th, 2011, 08:15 AM

Hello folksies
I lost a day somewhere around here - think it was yesterday. And now I've lost an extra hour. I hope I never lose my friends! I never even got online yesterday - hope everyone had a pleasant day. I need to go and read the posts from way back then and get caught up.

Today is Luscious Larry's Birthday. I am making him a spectacular birthday breakfast, chocolate cake and then on Tuesday which is my Mom's birthday, will take the two of them out for a birthday bash dinner.

Have a great day; I am off to find my coffee cup. I haven't even had one sip yet and I am practicing civility.

Happy birthday to Luscious and to Mom! Chocolate cake sounds devine!

A wonderful birthday wish for Luscious and to your Mom. Give them both hugs from me.

This morning there is a Remembrance Day ceremony here in town which I will attend. I am a part of it so I guess I better attend. We always do our a week before, because we will all attend the big one next week.

Hoping to get some quilting done today.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Happy birthday to LL and your mom, Blondie! Hope they both have great days.

Not much happening here--off to church in just a few minutes, then studies, and then maybe some time at the sewing machine. We try to keep Sundays low key. Oh, I guess I need to cook somewhere in there, so I guess I'll add that to the list!

Have a blessed Sunday everyone!

Good Morning.

Happy Birthday to Luscious and to your Mom, Blondie.

Monique, tell us what Rememberance Day is about. I'd love to learn more about my neighbors to the north.

Today is my first weekend day home in months and I have so much chorse to catch up on. This place is a pig sty. But, beside laundry, I really feel like being lazy today. I'm so sick of this annoying head cold. Nothing enough to say I'm really sick but the sniffles and occasional coughing is driving me nuts. I do have to get my monthly guild blocks done as we meet on Tuesday. This month we are having a guest speaker. She is a quilt appraiser. I'm bring in old quilt who's origin I have no idea of. She won't be appraising but will be telling us about what to look for to help identify the age of a quilt. Can't wait!

Have a great day,

Oh - happy birthday to LL and your mom Blondie!

Not too much on the agenda for today - church and then dad's. It already sounds like a better day that I don't have to go in to school.

Have a great day everyone,

Thanks for asking Nancy. This is what it is all about.

Remembrance Day (also known as Poppy Day, Armistice Day or Veterans Day) is a memorial day observed in Commonwealth countries to remember the members of their armed forces who have died in the line of duty since World War I. This day, or alternative dates, are also recognized as special days for war remembrances in many non-Commonwealth countries. Remembrance Day is observed on 11 November to recall the official end of World War I on that date in 1918; hostilities formally ended "at the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month" of 1918 with the German signing of the Armistice ("at the 11th hour" refers to the passing of the 11th hour, or 11 a.m.)

The day was specifically dedicated by King George V on 7 November 1919 as a day of remembrance of members of the armed forces who were killed during World War I. This was possibly done upon the suggestion of Edward George Honey to Wellesley Tudor Pole, who established two ceremonial periods of remembrance based on events in 1917.[1]

The red remembrance poppy has become a familiar emblem of Remembrance Day due to the poem In Flanders Fields. These poppies bloomed across some of the worst battlefields of Flanders in World War I, their brilliant red colour an appropriate symbol for the blood spilled in the war.

He will be gone next weekend hunting up north and my goal is to sew the whole time. I need to make a holiday table runner for him to take to my friend Jenny (where he hunts).

Will check in later....DH is wanting to light a fire under me so we can get out in the woods.......ARGGGGGG! Hugs, Barb

My DD and I are off on an adventure this weekend. We drove to an outlet mall past Seattle. Which makes it about 4hours from
Home. Anyway we spent so much time at the mall we didn't feel like a long drive home. Stopped at the resort/casino across the way from the mall and were lucky enough to get a room!

So here I am in this fancy smansy room trying to be quiet so DD can sleep.

It's funny, when DH was alive I never would have done something like this, but it's been fun. Definitely to expensive to do more than once a year tho! The stars just lined up right tha DGD is spending the weekend with her other GM and we both had no plans for the weekend....I even won enough last night in the casino to pay for the hotel room!

Anyway, that's it just wanted to share, talk to you later ladies.

Good morning all! Checking in on my iPhone from WV where Mike and I are shopping for land. We both have colds but are roughing it out, probably our last trip down before spring so we're hoping we find "the one" today.

Shannon, sounds like Lady Luck was on your side this weekend!

Blondie, happy birthday to your man and your mom!

Wish I could sew today but I did bring my floral swap blocks along so I can play with layouts during down time in the motel.

Have a wonderful Sunday, all!

I love checking in here in the mornings and seeing what everyone is up to. I really didn't get to sleep in - but that's only because our bedroom clock is automatic and switched the times a week or more ago and it never got switched back. Being retired time really doesn't matter unless I have an appointment. Love that!! But, with Al gone I was the one awaken in the middle of the night by DeeOGee wanting to go outside. According to the bedroom clock it was around 1 a.m. He didn't want back in the house until 4 a.m. and though I slept before and after that it didn't seem restful. It's so difficult when I don't have my 'built-in' little pot-belly furnace next to me. But he'll be home tonight.

I'm sending Luscious Larry and Dear Blondie's Mom birthday wishes!! Wish I could stop in for cake with you. Let's see - I would love a flourless Chocolate!!!! (So would my hips and excess belly fat). And to Monique - we share your remembrances today and always. People so soon forget. Our Veteran's Day is this coming Friday.

Gina - you need to read my post about spending for the holidays and buying American. Teach Abbey that all those little goofy toys break soon. Make her something from the heart.

Shannon - I had a very dear friend who lived in Reno, NV and one time when I flew out to visit she had to drop me off at the airport early. I grabbed a handful of quarters after I had checked in for my flight and wound up winning a jackpot that more than paid for my whole trip. That was such a great feeling. Congratulations on finding time away. Those are the special moments.

Bernice and her sister are getting ready to do a quilt top - I got the neatest note from my sister yesterday thanking me for designing a special pattern for a quilt she's making for one of her granddaughters. That sure made me feel good.

Yesterday I was feeling well enough to tackle some of my sewing projects. After talking to my DD I have rearranged a few of my bucket-list items. Did make the lining for a knitted bag she made for one of her girls. Then I decided since Monday night is our local quilt guild that I'd do an applique on the back of my new denim shirt and embroider my name on it. I hadn't used the embroidery part of my machine for a while so I guess you could say I was rusty or just dumb. Anyway the applique and name came out beautiful. I then decided on a sewing theme piece to put over the name and went to change my thread color. That was when I noticed I had a 1 1/2 inch fold of the back fabric underneath my name. DUH! It took me three and a half hours to painstakingly pick out all of those tiny little stitches! So today I'm going to try AGAIN!

Working up a pattern for the quilt for DGD#3. Michelle loves cats and I have amassed about five or six different pieces of cat-theme fabric. Just hadn't come up with the right pattern but think I have it now. Then a dear new friend from NH shipped something to me and packed it with a bunch of charms and strips - and most have cats on the fabric. I'm in MEOW heaven. Speaking of which:

A cat dies and goes to Heaven. God meets him at the gate and says, "You have been a good cat all of these years. Anything you desire is yours, all you have to do is ask."

The cats says, "Well, I lived all my life with a poor family on a farm and had to sleep on hardwood floors."

God says, "Say no more." And instantly, a fluffy pillow appears.

A few days later, 6 mice are killed in a tragic accident and they go to Heaven. God meets them at the gate with the same offer that He made the cat. The mice said, "All our lives we've had to run. Cats, dogs and even women with brooms have chased us. If we could only have a pair of roller skates, we wouldn't have to run anymore."

God says, "Say no more." And instantly, each mouse is fitted with a beautiful pair of tiny roller skates.

About a week later, God decides to check and see how the cat is doing. The cat is sound asleep on his new pillow. God gently wakes him and asks, "How are you doing? Are you happy here?"

The cat yawns and stretches and says, "Oh, I've never been happier in my life. And those Meals on Wheels you've been sending over are the best!"

Do you think I had better get off this computer and get to work?

Hugs to all, special prayers where needed, and if I haven't mentioned you that's only because I've probably bored you before you got here!!

Sandy, that joke really DID make me laugh out loud! My hubby looked at me SO funny! :D

Today was SO frosty! There is snow on the way I can almost feel it!

Hi Everybody!
I went JoAnn's after I ran the morning milk test for the neighbor and was a tad early. I thought they opened at 9. No, on Sunday it's 10. It was 8:45. No problem! I'll sit in my car, listen to the audio book while I dink around with the quilt pattern I am buying fabric for.
I thought it was rather dumb to be sitting there wasting gas just listening to the book, so I turned the engine off. Did you know that my car CD player will suck the life out of my car battery in less than 40 minutes? I found out that Jerry, the tow truck guy from AAA is really nice. I then drove around for 30 minutes to recharge the battery. Hmmm. How much gas did I save? Good news was that it was an easy fix, and I realized that I needed to put the emergency kit with the jumper cables BACK in the car.
I also got a whopper of a deal on some fuzzy zebra print for a footstool for Em's Christmas present. I bought $47 worth of stuff for $16. Yeehaw! I love those extra % off of everything coupons! It makes my fabric obsession possible on my tight budget.
Now I get to do some sewing since I got 9 churn dash blocks cut last night.

Oh yeah, I found my keys! Thanks for helping me look!
