Whew! We had so many apples in the refrigerator drawer that I decided to make DH an apple pie. I made the vodka pie crust first and then looked online for a recipe with a pre-cooked filling. I have had such disappointments with all the work of making a pie and cutting that first slice to find...soup! I gave up on apple pie after that but with my food processor and these recipes I have decided to give it another try. The dough and filling are all made but have to cool so I will assemble it tomorrow.

What's up in your neck of the woods?

Hoot My husband has been waiting for a home made apple pie to arrive here.My dd went out apple picking but used all the apples for applesauce. If you lived near by I'd send him over to get high on the smell because it's as close as he's going to come for a while.I've never heard of vodka pie crust exactly what is that?

My MIL made the best apple pie..someone once asked her for her recipe. She said she didn't have one...she just put what she thought in it. We have tried to recreate it...DD came the closest. Think She may have inherited the apple pie gene....

Personally I can make blackberry cobbler but the apple always seems like it is missing something.

Vodka works for a pie crust because it inhibits the gluten where waters in the recipe encourages gluten. Gluten is what makes the pie crust tough not flaky.
All this talk of apple pie is making me hungry. I made an apple crisp last week and the house smelled so good. I just got a huge bag of my favorite Macoun apples they don't get them that often on the Island I usually have to go upstate for them. Apple pie or sticking to my diet....I' d really like the apple pie!

Try tapioca flour in your apple pie filling. Makes for a clearer, thicker filling, IMHO. There used to be an apple pie recipe on the Kraft minute tapioca box. I haven't made an apple pie with it, but I make a blueberry pie with it that'll make you slap your grandma.

I guess we could make a great team until...........we start rolling on the floor fighting over who gets to keep the quilt! :icon_rofl:
It would be easier if I kept it. I'm sure you will agree. :D

Nothing doing haha! I am pretty sure the one who quilts it and puts the binding on would have it in their grubby little hands last would get to keep it. ( cough cough I think it would be mine!!)

"slap your grandma"...lol :D

I baked off the pie and DH says it is the best ever and a recipe to keep. :) But since I cooked those apple slices and tasted it then, it lost some flavor. The filling tasted best right there on the stove after I put the apple cider vinegar in it...I wonder if that baked out...
