Years ago, I wore these awesome bows that were made with sheer fabric and then attached to Banana Clips. I have 3 of them, and would like to make some.
I made a formal for my daughter that required this sheer fabric and you used fish line to make it "curl" ( this is hard to explain I guess.) The fish line made the "ruffles". That dress took several hundred "yards" of that homemade "ruffle " .

My question is, do any of you have directions on how to make these bows ? The ruffled fabric was attached to the banana clip.
I would love to make some more as I am going to cut my hair a little shorter, and would like to start wearing the bows once again.

( years ago, I would gather up my hair, put it in an elastic hair band and then twist the hair in and put the bow on top of the hair. The bow was placed in the back of my head. )

I would appreciate it if any of you have a pattern on how to make these bows ( the manufactured ones like I have are made from sheer fabric ) OR if you know of a video tutorial I could follow on how to make the bows.
( Years ago, I had a McCall's pattern for the dress I made my DD that had all these rows of sheer ruffles in the back of the dress. I don't have the pattern, so I can't use the directions to make the ruffles. IF I had the directions I could make the "ruffles" and use it for making the hair bows I want.

Sorry if this post sounds confusing....

Hi Sugar,
googled this and came up with: https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+make+ruffle+hair+bows&rlz=1C1PRFE_enUS647US647&espv=2&biw=1280&bih=855&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0CAYQ_AUoAGoVChMI7pDstrWKyAIVCJyACh21iAWc&dpr=1

I think what you may be asking for is different. Short of having a ruffler attachment, I would hand gather the ruffles. Of course, I may be totally misunderstanding you. Sigh. Good luck, sweetie.

Blondie....I did find a YouTube video ( finally ! ) to learn how to make the fabric with the fish line. There's nothing out there on YouTube as far as the bows I have ...so I am going out to Jo-Ann Fabrics today to get some organza ( along with a trip to Walmart for 50 pound fish line ) and I will get some of the fabric made.

Here's the video I found. I also found a video that you can make the ruffles with organza using a Serger ( I have a serger as well as my Viking / Husqvarna Designer SE). So, I might try both machines and see which one turns out the best ruffled fabric, and then I will make a few of these bows.

Years ago, these bows were quite popular. I had several, ( and wore out 2-3 of them ). The company I purchased them from no longer makes these bows.
Well, off to go shopping !
( I want to get some fabric ( fall colors ) to make a table runner. ) not only for the bows but to make some table runners too.)

That was an interesting video. I knew how to make a hem with the line, but wrapping/heating it to get a different size curl was new to me.

I am going to go out to Jo-Ann's later today and get some supplies to make on of these bows I am talking about. I stopped the other day at Dollar General and picked up a couple of the larger Banana Clips to make these Bows with.. I think I am going to use my serger on the Organza.....maybe. Anyway will let y'all know when I get it done. Maybe by that time I will get my new cell phone as well. I have been trying to convince myself that I don't need an iPhone .....and I am thinking about just going back to a regular flip phone like I had a few years ago, and using Consumer Cellular again. Consumer Cellular is really reasonable, and what's more they are really good about calling you and letting you know that you could save money by lowering your minute amount as well.
I did find out that Consumer Cellular also has iPhones now.....so I could go into the iPhone 6 which they do have as well.

Thanks for looking for me....if any of you find anything else let me know......I was going to cut all my hair off ( I used to always wear my hair really, really short like Mia Farrow used to wear hers .....I think Halle Berry wears hers really short like that as well. Anyway, when I had all those brain surgeries several years ago, DH Terry asked me to let my hair grow really long so I could French Braid it. I have had it quite long now for over 13 yrs, and it's time for a change....maybe not a BIG change ( making it really short ) but a change is in order!! :)
