Will you please measure the circumference around the ankle area? I have to get a garter made......

Pat, do you know if it is a roper style or an old-fashioned high top style? I can measure the ropers I have, but I don't have the old timey boots.

My white high-top boots worn for MY wedding measure 12 inches at the ankle, size 6.

My ropers are about 13 inches at the ankle.

Goodness, she is not a horse rider, just wears them for fun and is wearing them w/her wedding dress. I didn't know there are different kinds!!

It is for this.......if that helps!! https://www.pinterest.com/pin/565342559444699268/

That would be like mine. And size matters a little. Larger size, larger ankle.

FYI; they aren't 'old fashioned' to those of us who wear them daily. They are still sold in many styles and colors to those of us who ride and show western horses. But the Ropers are a nice every day work boot.

Yep with boots size and style matter a whole lot. Each one of my boots are completely different. My riding boots have more room at the ankle as you need to flex and be able to drop your heel as you ride. My muck boots are bigger yet. Dress boots really narrow. Is there someone that can sneak you a measurement of her boot?

I would get that boot and then make it or you might have big problems and nobody wants that to happen....🐝 Bee.

I can't get the boot or the measurements of said boot. If someone could just give me an approximate size for a size 8 in the ankle area, for boots you would wear with jeans or out and about boots, that would be great.

whatever you decide on make sure it is big enough to stretch over the heel to get off

It slides down from the top of the boot.

Unless she wants to remove it to throw, as is traditional.

Pat the site said 'for fun put your garter on your boot'. Since garters are made for thighs, I would stick to that, a normal garter.

You need to consider the boot heel also. Your garter may "fit" around the ankle but may not allow for the heel to pass through. Yes there are different heels for boots!

Pat, if she's going to just wear it as opposed to throwing it, go to a Western store and measure a pair of Ropers at the ankle. Or as Lorie mentioned, keep it thigh sized.

Western boots aren't as straightforward as one would think...........many styles both in make and heel, and breaking them in changes the game altogether. :D

Those are the old-style pointy-toed kind. My ropers are 6 1/2s so I can't tell you about the size 8s. Sorry.

I finally reached her mom and she is getting the measurement for me. This garter is to be worn like an ankle bracelet as a decoration on her boot. It's nearly done and has something blue on it. The thigh one is almost done and is all cream to match her dress, using tulle from her dress (which is much nicer than the crap from J's!!) and I cut out one of the embroidered beaded designs to add to it. That was a chore! There will be a much more simpler one to throw.

I'll post pictures when they are done.

My Tony Lamas with the same style heel, toe and top are 13 inches around the ankle for a size 6 1/2. Hope that helps.

My thigh is 17'' if that helps.

How about putting velcro on the back side? She can adjust it then.

I had thought about the Velcro.....it was 14" and I had a large hook and eye.

My western riding boots look almost exactly like those in the picture you posted and I wear a size 8. Mine measure 14" around the ankle. Hope this helps you out! :icon_bigsmile:

They are NOT old-style when they are still IN style, are they?

Heck I didn't know they were old style either. Of course ropers are worn a lot cause they are cheaper, but mostly we wear the normal style.
