If you decide to visit Prague I highly recommend staying at Pod Vezi Hotel. I couldn't have asked for better treatment. The location was perfect. The food was terrific. Our room was large and very comfortable. This is my second visit to Prague. I loved it the first time but really fell in love with it this visit.

If you decide to visit Budapest our hotel which is called Corinthia is really lovely https://www.google.hu/search?q=corinthia+hotel+in+Budapest&client=safari&rls=en&biw=1271&bih=711&tbm=isch&source=lnms&sa=X&ved=0CAcQ_AUoAmoVChMIyKPrjYzRxwIVCxQsCh3d1gsX. It's not in a particularly beautiful location and I was disappointed to see that the sidewalks are quite dirty and littered. However, the place is stunning and there are quite a few really famous people who have stayed here. It's just so weird that this incredible hotel is sitting where it is located. It seems like it should be located in a really posh neighborhood but that's not the case. The breakfast is pricey if you don't pay in advance to eat there for all breakfasts during your stay. We felt that price was too high as well. We ate a couple of breakfasts down the street at the New York Cafe. The most beautiful restaurant I have ever seen. https://www.google.hu/search?q=New+York+Cafe+in+Budapest&client=safari&rls=en&tbm=isch&imgil=-wiIiXwo_WbzzM%253A%253BSpBQedO9G_jTrM%253Bhttp%252 53A%25252F%25252Fmrfoster.blog.hu%25252Ftags%25252 Ff%25252525C3%25252525B6ldalatti&source=iu&pf=m&fir=-wiIiXwo_WbzzM%253A%252CSpBQedO9G_jTrM%252C_&biw=1271&bih=711&usg=__o4ldvlwkxGnyGbOYE04EioVyy0I%3D&ved=0CEIQyjdqFQoTCOuanuyL0ccCFQqGLAodYzoIxw&ei=Rx3jVavbK4qMsgHj9KC4DA#imgrc=-wiIiXwo_WbzzM%3A&usg=__o4ldvlwkxGnyGbOYE04EioVyy0I%3D
You will look at the photos and think we spent a fortune but the prices for the hotel stay were very reasonable both in Prague and in Budapest.

Budapest is a huge city. The buildings are massive. I don't advise the Hop On Hop Off bus. It was not ideal in that it often kept us waiting in the heat for long periods of time even once we were on the bus. Other buses might be better but I can't say. We had purchased a 48-hour pass and we certainly got our money's worth since it also covered the boat tour. However, the third day was wonderful for travel by the underground. It's very clean and very efficient. The National Museum is a must as well as the tour of the Opera House.

Two favorite cities for me, too. Both are jewels! Sounds like you had a great time.
