View Full Version : Foam for Bench

I need to make a cushion for a bench. I found the fabric for an unbelievable price at a home decor store that was closing. Went to JoAnns to get the foam; I'm expecting $12-$15 a yard but was floored when I saw it would be $45 even with a 50% off coupon (I was looking at getting the 2"). That is seriously ridiculous! Anyone have ideas where I can get cushion foam for a price not so outLandish? I'm still in shock.

I went to an upolstery shop when I had a projet like that. Sometimes they will give left over prieces for less.

I recycle the egg crates no longer being used. Use 2 pieces nesting them together.

Try a fabric outlet store.

There is a mattress store near me that makes the mattresses onsite. I have bought foam there. Perhaps you could find a similar one.

Maybe a cushion at a thrift store or yard sale? Thats awful that it was that much.

WOW, that's a LOTTA pricey right there for sure! I'd definitely check an upholstery shop.

I was going to suggest some type of discount store and maybe even consider a mattress topper.

I know what you mean....I can't believe they charge that much....it's insane for something that probably costs pennies to make....I was in Joann's one day and the lady behind me was buying some foam and talking to me about it, when she told me how much it was I about fell on the floor....there's got to be a less expensive way...it's probably cheaper to find a ready made cushion that you can recover.

Foam is outrageously priced. From what I understand it is made from petroleum by products that was the explanation for the expense...but by product wouldn't that make it cheap?

Go to Walmart and buy a cushion in the size you want and make a cover for it. Maybe like a pillowcase cover? With velcro to close it so you can easily wash it later.

I bought some Walmart cushions a while back for only $5 each. They now need to be recovered and plan on doing that instead of buying new ones. Even the pillow forms at Walmart are more than the inexpensive cushions they sell.
