View Full Version : OMG, I thought I was going to die!

About 1pm today I had a bad pain start in my back, I've been hurting for several days, but thought it was Arthritis. I then went to the bathroom and I had blood coming out of a place blood isn't supposed to come out of and even worse pain. This happened again about 30 minutes later. So I called my doctor. He said sounds like kidney stones, go to the ER and I'll order a CT scan. I got there and after 4.5 hours I am back home. I was given three prescriptions (one of which is Percocet). The good news is the CT scan doesn't show kidney stones, but it did show that I have cyst in my kidneys. So I was sent home and told to see a urologist by the end of next week.

Keep your positive thoughts out there for me. I hope things get better quickly.

Bob, call and make an appointment TOMORROW! That is nothing to mess with, especially until they know exactly what the "cyst" is.

My brother in law was taking a nap one Sunday, turned over and had a terrible pain in his back. 911 was called, he went to the ER and they next day he had his kidney removed. No previous pain, no symptoms, nothing. He had a tumor that had grown completely around his kidney and his kidney had "flopped" when he rolled over, causing the pain. It was renal cell cancer.

And yes, I'm telling you this to scare the bejeezus out of you so you get off your rear and get it to the specialist ASAP.

We just wouldn't be right here without our boB.

I agree with the others - get that dr appointment ASAP. I will add, if you are still on Percoset, you need to call a friend to take you to the doctor's as well. It is not safe to drive when taking that heavy a medication. Wishing this is something easily and quickly fixable.

Bob that sounds like such a scary thing to have happen.I know for myself it's always worse when you don't know so Call the Dr. tomorrow and make an appt asap.I will keep you in my prayers and good thoughts. When you see the doc make sure to ask what they will do to watch the cyst for any changes.

I'll add my name to the list of folks that want you to call the Dr. ASAP!

Dad gets to visit the dialysis center three days a week because both of his kidneys have been removed due to cancer. Don't mess with this. We love you and want you here to hassle us for many more years!

The Drs. office doesn't accept calls until 9am. The ER doc talked with the urologist last night so they are expecting my call. I agree I'm not driving while on the pain meds.

Thanks everyone.

I agree, don't wait. Call the dr. now. My MIL was 'sort of sick' for two years. They couldn't find any rhyme or reason. It was kidney cancer. It was amazing how much better she felt even in the hospital right after surgery.

Could be nothing, but it's nothing to wait around about either.

Healing prayers,
Katrina

I have called the Urologist office and the earliest I can get in is April 22. I have an appointment and was told if I have additional issues to go back to the ER or my primary physician. The urologist say they can't do anything until the infection is cleared up. So I am still in some discomfort and am about ready for another pain pill and the nap that goes with that.

Thanks for all the Love! It helps.

Bob, glad you have the appointment. After the infection is cleared up they can give you a better evaluation. Lots of time the swelling can look worse than it is.

If you need a kidney, I'm sure one of us will be a match. LOL

Seriously take care and try not to worry, it will be a waste of precious quilting time.

Bob - can you push them a little harder - April 22??????? Are we on socialized medicine here? I really don't think you should wait that long.

The interesting thing that happened this afternoon, I was talking to a friend who lives on Fulton, MO. I've mentioned him before, he has terminal cancer. His doctor referred him to the same urologist several weeks ago. He had an appointment on April 15, so we got on a conference call and switched appointments. So now I get to see the urologist on April 15, a week earlier and he is taking my appointment on the 22nd. I'm happy to be getting in a week earlier.

Bob, feel better and drink lots of fluids! If it's a renal cyst there isn't much that can be done. They come and go and are very painful! But you need the eval either way! If it's a kidney stone the fluids will help it pass. Take your meds and be alert for fever or chills!
If you get them, back to the ER!! Now be a good boy!!

They told me there wasn't a lot to do about the cyst, but what concerned them was a CT scan from 2011 showed cyst there and they have gotten larger in both kidneys. So the ER doc and my primary (I've gone to the same one since 1988) agreed they needed to be evaluated to rule out anything that might be serious. He said they are usually benign, but need to be checked out.

Thanks for the info. One can't have too much info.

Prayers being said. I feel your pain (well not exactly), but going through all of this urology stuff with DH is no fun at all. Get your butt to the doctor like Karen said. This is nothing to mess around with.
