Sawyer,

As you enjoy your last day of being a zero-year-old and prepare to turn one, I can't help but reflect on the ups and downs of our first trip around the sun together. You have changed so much and grown from a helpless little baby into a beautiful little boy. I've learned a lot over the last 364 days. Most of that knowledge involves the various bodily fluids that infants produce, what they smell like, and how to clean them off every surface of our home. I've also learned some less tangible things like what absolute unconditional love feels like.

If I could go back in time I'd tell that terrified new dad standing in the NICU staring at his son in an incubator covered in wires and tubes and looking so frail and helpless two things. First, your son will be fine, give it a week and no one will ever be able to tell that he had such a rocky start; give it a year and you'll wish you could slow the boy down! Second, You'll be okay too. Parenting, taken as a whole, is an incredibly complex and nuanced occupation but it breaks down to a collection of relatively manageable tasks and you'll figure it out with no problem.

I hope the year ahead has just as many smiles and cuddles and new memories as the one we are about to leave behind did. No matter how old you get or big you grow, you'll always be my precious little Wiggles.

Love,
Dad

He's grown fast and this year has gone by faster. It doesn't seem like it's been a year since he was born.

I am always amazed how much these little people learn in that first year. The difference between birth and 1 year is the most remarkable transformation in their whole life. Love those little ones.
Happy Birthday tomorrow Wiggles.

I'll join in with all the best of wishes for the coming year!! And, may I share that I hope - in addition to sharing here - that you are starting a very special scrapbook to pass along to an eventual Mrs. Wiggles sometime way out in the future. You know that Sawyer has a whole bunch of would-be grandparents on the forum, right?
