Good Morning Everyone,

Christina is breathing much easier and had a good night and got sleep at last. The pulmonary specialist thinks he found the trigger for her problem and it's a digestive problem where the esophagus connects to the stomach. The doctor says he knows it sounds crazy but he has seen the same thing in more than 50 patients. She still has serious underlying respiratory issues but I guess this will be one step at a time. He also said the all the doctors she saw who gave her breathing treatments only prescribed one of the drugs used in the treatments (Albuterol) for her home nebulizer and there was another drug mixed with it. He is giving her the mixture in the hospital and it will continue at home in her machine(s). This should make a world of difference.

I got a full nights sleep and feel so much better today. Today Jeff comes home from the hospital today and we have about a half inch of snow on top of a thin layer of ice. I will travel in our Yukon today because it will be easier for Jeff to get in and out. I drove this vehicle one time only and I'm a bit nervous about it but I'll take my time. I'm doing some last minute things to make the house ready for him....we have to switch sides of the bed temporarily, took up all the little rugs he could possibly trip on, ordering him flowers and balloons for his birthday tomorrow, etc. I haven't given a thought to food, so I will get on that matter later today. He loves tostadas so I may fix that for his dinner tonight.

Hopefully things will settle down a bit around here and my family will get back on their feet soon. There aren't enough words to thank you for all your support so I'll just wish you all loads of love and hugs....Barb

Barb, so glad to hear your daughter is seeing that specialist. Yes, what he told you is a common condition and usually responds pretty quickly with the right combination of treatments. And no, albuterol alone in that nebulizer is not enough because it is short acting. Ipratropium is probably what he will add and should make a big difference for her. Acid reflux is nothing to mess with. It can cause other problems down the road, too. So glad to hear this new doctor has her on a better track.

I hope all goes well with Jeff's trip home. Will likely wear him and you both out!

Barb it is funny (as in interesting) that you are speaking about the cause of your daughter's breathing problems are related to a GI problem. For my mom, it was the same thing except hers was related to having had a stroke. After months and many medications and visiting every specialist in our city they discovered that stomach acid was coming up in my moms throat and going into her lungs causing permanent damage to her lungs. She would pant for breath and it was so sad to watch her breath. She seems to be somewhat better now but still does a nebulizer treatment 2x a day. With her they said it was her stroke which had damaged the epiglottis and allowed food/acid into her lungs. She went from about a 150 lb woman to 83 lbs in a matter of 3 or 4 months. We thought she had cancer but no it was this GI thing. She is still very frail after living with this for 2 years now and of course she is much much older than your daughter. My mom continues to have strokes so her condition is not the same but I thought it was interesting about the breathing and the GI connection.
Hope things turn around quickly for Christina now that they have come up with a better treatment.

Barb, I'm thrilled to hear you are finally seeing some light at the end of the tunnel so to speak. Having Jeff back home will be one big thing off your plate. Traveling back and forth to the hospital everyday can wear one out. I'm sure Miss Dottie and Olive are anxiously awaiting his return and will give him quite the homecoming.

Glad to hear you report Christina is doing much better. Hopefully they have gotten to the root of her problem and is now on her way to complete recovery.

Tell Jeff Happy Homecoming and Birthday for me!

Barb,

I am so glad to hear solutions to your daughters health issues are in the works. I'm also glad Jeff is coming home. You must really love him if you are switching sides of the bed (LOL). Just be sure to take care of yourself, you letting yourself get down would be a nightmare.

Hugs,

I'm so glad to hear your daughter is doing better, Barb. Hopefully, it will be smooth sailing getting him home from the hospital. Good luck! Happy to hear you got some sleep. It makes all the difference when one is rested. My first day or two back from the states was fraught with little sleep or sporadic sleep at most. It was obvious that my brain just wasn't up to snuff. I was standing in the kitchen asking Joe where the trash cans were. Good grief!!! How many times have I walked over to use those cans? Yep! Lack of sleep can really take its toll.

So glad everyone is doing better. I will bring my hubby home from a week in the hospital in the morning. It's been months figuring out the problem, so I empathize with what you've been through. Blessings on your family! Thank you for letting us know about the outcome so far on your DD.

So happy you are bringing Jeff home. Wish I were closer than SW Florida so I could bring you dinner. Also very happy to hear your DD is doing better. Her nurses will probably give her lots of tips for dealing with the reflux and avoid further problems with it and her breathing. Please PM me if not, I am a nurse and have a TON of experience with both. Snuggle in tonight and try for some good rest. You deserve it. Cyber hugs.

Deep breath. One day at a time. Sounds like DD has a solid diagnosis that should lead to greatly improved treatment. DH sounds like he may be on the road to improvement if he is able to come home. Prayers for daily strength for all.

Oh honey, I am so glad to hear that things are starting to look up. Now that Christine is finally getting the help she has needed. Sounds like the duo neb treatments are working great. I am sure Jeff is anxious to get home as well. Make sure you are getting enough rest as well. The last thing you need right now is a bad lupus flare. Love, hugs, and many prayers.
