View Full Version : UPDATE ON DAUGHTER

Have you ever come to the end of yourself? I think I arrived at that point today but someone wisely reminded me that when we are in over our heads, it's under God's feet. I clung to that thought like a drowning person all afternoon.

I was finally put through to the ER that received my DD and after many transfers I was told they were still working on her. A couple hours later the phone rang and it was DD, barely able to speak. They began treating her the minute she entered the ER and gave her multiple breathing treatments, tests and a potassium IV. A team worked on her for over 3 hours. She was critically low on potassium again. Evidently when your body is struggling for air it pushes the potassium from your blood into the cells. A new pulmonary specialist has been called in and he will see her this afternoon. This doctor is considered to be the top gun in his field, so hopefully he will get to the bottom of her problem. They are holding her in the ER until they see if she needs to be transported to another facility after she sees the specialist. She's a healthy, normal 49 yo Mom of two and she has had good health all her life. All of a sudden she has to struggle to breathe. She has been down with "a bug" for over four months now and has seen countless doctors, specialists, had every test know to modern medicine and has ingested more steroids and other medicine than you could ever imagine.

Jeff is being released from the hospital tomorrow. Friday is his birthday. I had a meeting with a Release Planner today at our home. This took almost two hours and dragged on forever. For a week or two a Home Health physical therapist will come to us and then Jeff will transition to outpatient physical therapy. I will really have my hands full now.

Thank you so much for your prayers and well wishes. I don't know what I did for support before I became part of this group. Good people = Good Friends....thank you so much and please keep praying that my Daughter will finally get the right diagnosis and treatment. Christina is my only surviving child and the thought of losing her, even though she's a Christian, is something really hard for me to deal with. This morning she told me she thought today would be the day for her to leave this life. My heart almost stopped when she said that and told me she wanted me to be the one to tell her kids.

Thank you, thank you everyone....Love, Barb

This is heart wrenching. The only response can be prayerful tears. I do pray. Fall on God for peace and mercy and find peace in the prayers of others. We love you, Barb.

Barb, you've been handed more than your share to deal with. I will be, as others are, continuing to pray for Christina and Jeff . . . and that the worried mom and caregiver for Jeff doesn't wind up needing the care herself. Maybe there's a resource locally to you (hospital, church, etc) that can provide emotional/spiritual guidance to ease your stressful state. :icon_hug:

Barb,

What a heavy load you have been carrying. I'm praying for all three of you and will continue to do so. Take care of yourself so that you can take care of Jeff. How far does Christina live from you?

Prayerfully yours, Dolly

Your right Barb... knowing all the wonderful people here that are always in our corners thinking and saying prayers is something very special... I'll be doing just that until I hear things are calmed down a bit... why is it that so many good people have so many challenges??? Who knows... just hang in there... your in our thoughts... Hugs, Barbara/GB

Continued prayers from here, too. Hoping for a good outcome from the specialist.

Remember to breathe and lower your shoulders - it will help you deal with the stress. A few deep cleansing breaths can really help. Try to get some sleep tonight. Being a full time caregiver is stressful in the best situations and you have lots of other stuff going on. Wish there was more we could do for you. Hugs!

oh my land Barb. You are really up to your eyeballs right now. So glad you are able to lean on your forum friends and your faith. There is nothing worse than being far away when your kids are sick, no matter what age they are. You need to take care of yourself too. At least when you are home you can relax a bit better. Just look after the essentials and don't worry about details like housework. Prayers for you, Jeff and your daughter.

Oh my, you have your hands full. Your husband may qualify for a cna twice a week to help with bathing. Take advantage of all insurance or Medicare has to offer. This will also give you a break. But you have to ask for these things. The Dr can write orders for this. Good luck and you're in my prayers.

I'm praying for Christina and Jeff for healing and assistance, and for wisdom for the doctors, and that indescribable Peace that comes from above. Bless you, friend.
