View Full Version : Friday! Hip Hip Hooray!

Happy Friday Folksies!

Yes, it is Friday and I can say I am looking forward to tomorrow already. Yesterday was rather a bust at work with my afternoon appts crumbling and rescheduling for today. My poor dawgies will be barking at me tonite.

My mom purchased a little notepad from QVC recently. Why? I don't know, since she doesn't have internet. For some reason she felt that wi-fi was free and therefore she would be online. When I tried to 'splain that the wifi needed something to connect to, she just didn't get it. So, yesterday afternoon, I spent the better part of it, on the phone trying to figure the blasted thing out. It did not come with a chatty/informative manual. She told me if I could get it up and going, then she would let me borrow it. Gee, thanks Mom. I think it will be nice to use when I am sitting in the dr's office with her - I think most of them have wifi?

My poor DD has not been having a wonderful week. You know how things happen in bunches? Of course you do; just reading our forum is a litany of mistfortunes that befall us all so often. Earlier this week, her stepson totaled his vehicle. He is okay - 5 stitches around his eye. But like I said, totaled vehicle. The next night they had a huge power surge off and on, off and on and ka-pow - both of their tv's are totaled. Then she found out from an email that she had forgotten about an online class. Wee dawgies. Her professor sent her a reminder that she had three assignments and 2 quizzes that are overdue. She will survive. We all do. I never even mentioned what her insurance bill will look like next month. I think she is wanting to return to her youth where all she had to worry about was what pair of grungy, holy jeans to wear to school. I prefer to think of these times as climbing the mountain so I can ski down. I don't ski very well, but I sure can slide by the seat of my pants.

So many of our members need to start sliding down that proverbial mountain. Don't forget to keep them in your prayers for health and renewal of their minds and spirits. When we are in the middle of a battle, we get tunnel vision. I am praying that these precious ones can see the light at the end of that tunnel and just hang in there. In light of their needs, my DD's week looks like a walk in the park. Speaking of parks - Spring will be coming. I just know it will. Sweet Sweet Spring with fields of buttercups, the scent of freshly cut grass and glorious sunshine. Come Spring, come!

Have a wonderful weekend folksies. Smile whenever possible.

Good morning....

Heigh-ho, heigh-ho it's off to work I go. Will stop back and read the posts later. Have a wonderful day!

Good morning Blondie! I'm up for awhile. I was still up at 12:30, so I may be napping later this morning. You are so right about how our troubles often are so small when compared to what others are going through. I'm thankful that I'm healthy (as far as I know) and, even though life ain't always a bed of roses, it's a pretty comfortable bed. Prayers and good thoughts to all those in need. Happy Friday everyone!!

Good morning. Spring huh, and my snowplow guy just came and cleared at the end of the driveway. Yes we got a dumping yesterday.

I have to tell you, the poor dead chipmunk, still in the trap, still in the box, finally got taken away yesterday. Yes, I threw trap and all into the bush at the top of the hill well away from our house. Just call me "Trapping momma".

I got NOTHING done yesterday. Got a call to go work today but trying to find something to take with me. YIKES!!

I may also need a nap this afternoon, closed from 12-3.

Last night, I heard from my cousins that my Aunt is not doing well. She fell and broke her hip last week and now she refuses to eat and wants to die and be by her husband's side. I really feel for the family on this one. It is a couple hours trip for me which I don't think I will be able to make. The family is rallying around her this weekend. She hasn't eaten in a week, so there may not be much time left. I have sent her my love and thoughts and that is about all I can do. I hope when she passes, she does do so peacefully. She still has her mind, it is her body that has given out on her. She is very frail, but sharp as a tack. She would be the last of my father's sisters. This is what my cousin wrote just now "Only reason she is hanging on is cause her heart must be tough cause she has no willpower left. Just a matter of time now". And yes she is one tough lady.

Anyway, enough of my gloom for the day. You all have a wonderful day and a great weekend too.

One step forward and two steps back but I'm still up right and climbing. Have a great weekend everyone

Monique, I know what a rough week you've had as well. Please know you are always safe in my heart and arms. HUGS!

Good Morning and Happy Friday all. Going to be a cold weekend but heck, it's still the weekend. :icon_woohoo: Today I will not be in the office to start the day. There is a Job Expo at a local university that a few sister agencies and ourselves are taking part in and I will be working the registration desk there for a bit. Afterwards, I will head back to the office for a few hours but it should be a day that moves along quickly.

Hugs to all those that need them. Enjoy your Friday and Smile. :icon_bigsmile:

Mornin' folks...
Blondie - I find it difficult to believe that you have a DD old enough to have a stepson who is old enough to drive ;) Hope she has a better weekend. I think that I have been experiencing that tunnel vision lately - prayers appreciated.
Oh Monique - my heart goes out to you friend - hugs...
Sewflower - I'm right with ya - let's climb this one together. :icon_wave:
Gotta get that quilting done today, then binding - I've already decided that if I get hung up, then I will give my friend the other items already done and a note saying that the quilt will be ready within the week - still hoping to finish today though. I've learned alot making this one for sure - I guess the most important being that I am slow as molasses but that's ok - I adore the process. I just need to make sure I allow myself enough time when it is a gift. I am a proud Sewcialist ;)
DD#2 is jumping right into her classes and likes all of her profs :) Have not seen DD#1 so much this week, we'll catch up this weekend.
Hope everyone has a great day - happy quilting!

Good morning everyone! Blondie - what you wrote is so true. Sometimes we focus on the tunnel we are in and not the light at the end of it. Hard to do, friends, when it is you in that tunnel. So think of our forum friends today and the challenges they face.

Morning all. Snowing again here...looks like another snow day for me. Can't make any money that way, but better safe then sorry since I have to go up then down a mountain throw in the hairpin curve and it spells no go. Especially as we are down a vehicle since mine died and hubbys is well meh. smaller then mine was and not so good in weather.
Hugs to all those that need them. Stay safe if your in weather.

For all of you that are struggling I am praying. There will be better days ahead.

Today is the day my son's girlfriend is doing my hair. I was up waaaaay too late so I hope she can do a perm while I'm asleep in the chair. I meet her at her beauty school (probably not what there called these days) in five hours.

Getting a new couch delivered today. My sister will be home for the delivery. Once I get back home I'm sure it will be time to play rearrange the furniture. With the granddaughter living here I have to arrange for maximum play area but keep it a safe area too. Have to be sure and block her from the DVDs she loves to pull them off the shelf.

Oh Monique, Sad week for you. I also lost someone this week, my cousin Rocky. Viewing is today in Brooklyn but we may not be able to get there due to the new snowfall. Rocky wasn't really my cousin but he was close family as the DH of my fave cousin Louise. Growing up she was my friend and role model but unfortunately she passed away much too young about 30 years ago leaving Rocky to raise there 6 kids ages 8 -18.

Blondie, Glad to hear your DD's step son is OK. I've been worried about family driving after our snow storm. Major roads are clear but everyone has to drive a lot on secondary roads that aren't. Curb snow melts while the sun is shining and freezes over when the sun goes down and we all know what problems black ice causes.

Getting a bit light out so I'm going to take a peek out front to see if it is still snowing and how much new snow has fallen.
PS: Here's Rocky with the quilt I gave him.99742

Good Morning all my forum buddies!

Blondie - you make me smile every morning! I agree about the tunnel vision. Sometimes I'm my own worst enemy.

Guess what!!!?? I am not working today! Insert Snoopy dance here. I am going to take a needle-turn applique class today at my LQS. I think they call it Hawaiian Applique. I bought some really pretty batiks for it and can't wait to get started. I have all my "stuff" ready to go and it's an all day class. So excited!!!

Monique, hugs and prayers for you and hope all smooths out for you.

Blondie, hoping DD's days get happier and more fun.

Hugs and prayers!

Good morning! Off to work for me as well. There is snow forecast for this weekend...which sucks as it is the end of the month and I will have to work on Sunday for inventory. DH will have to take me if its bad out....I don't drive in it.

Prayers for all those in need! Have a great day!

January 30th, 2015, 10:11 AM
Monique and May, so sorry for your losses, prayers for strength.

Blondie, thankful that DD's stepson didn't get seriously hurt in that car accident. The rest of the threes are the pits, been there, done that. Hope the cycle is over with.

Don has his Arctic gear and suitcases ready for the move to Dead Head but the group as of 7 pm (AK) - haven't been told what time they are leaving, along with other security details required. He's a bit annoyed, military man showing through. Told him to go eat dinner and chill, get a good night sleep, it will all come together.

Winds blew like crazy last night making for a restless night, nap might be in order today. Need to clean to house, do a load of laundry. Nothing exciting going on here in Atlanta.

Please be safe when driving, have a great day.

Prayers for those in need, huggers for all, Ruby

Morning all...very chilly day here with the wind bringing temps to minus 22. The sun is shining tho although that always seems to make it seem colder. I'm happy to be at work and not out there.

We have an open house on Saturday and I'm leaving Scott to take care of the clean up prior to it. I did six showings when he was house sitting for a friend at work so I think he can handle this. I'm leaving tonight after work to visit my cousin then getting my hair done tomorrow for the first time in almost a year. Talk about a badly needed appointment. Will likely go home after the open house is done...although not sure why I'm so bored there.

This waiting in limbo for my house to sell is wearing me down and I'm kind of numbed out...just in a holding pattern until I can start packing. Fingers crossed it sells soon! Sending huge hugs to those in need...thinking of Barb and Jeff today and everyone else who is struggling with health issues....and gratefully accepting any hugs headed my way. I'm thankful for you all! xoxo

Today should be full day of activity. Keeping an eye on Soph is not a one person job, it's been wearing. She was up half the night crying, not sure why but eventually she fell back asleep.
After hubby gets done with work it's tax time, big buck big bucks no whammies! We will be banking most of the return for the next year's needs. It was a rough one last year. I am getting a new machine, one that will quilt. My current one just can't handle it. Can't wait!!!
I'll be working on the few quilts I have in progress and doing some fabric shopping at Joann's with my 60% off coupon.
The big house project is going to be pulling up the poor carpet in the dining room/office and living room area. I'm pretty excited, I peeked at the floor from the heating vent and we've got hardwoods underneath. What suspense to see what the floors look like!! We'll do a trial piece by the door that way if it's bad we'll just some linoleum or tile. The homeowner put cheap carpet down and with all of us trafficking and the dogs running has taken a toll.

Hugs prayers and happy thoughts for everyone.

Good wishes and hugs and understanding and power surges being sent out from here. We're seeing a drop in temperature so I may hold back on some of those power surges. Unfortunately (or fortunately if you are on the receiving end) I need to make a run out today to the PO so that will keep me out of the sewing room for a while. I've been doing some weird things down there anyway - like trying to find a piece of fabric that I know I have . . . can you tell that things got disrupted when Al was busy down there? I have managed quite a few embroidery sew outs though - so it isn't all bad.

Sure hope everyone stays safe and has a wonderful weekend. Meanwhile I'll try to behave and not cause any undue stress on the forum.

I'm back to my old self... funny what those "procedure drugs" do to one's reality. Mine was pretty distorted there for a day or so...Don't feel bad. Just drugged out. And I get to do it again in 3 months. Yeah! NOT

I think I'll try and get some sewing done today. Got my Hunter's star quilt to work on... Nothing too challenging at this stage. Thanks for all the good wishes, prayers and hugs. They mean so much to me. You all are the greatest!!

Good Morning! It has been busy around here this morning. Believe it or not it has taken me an hour and half just to read through this post with all the interruptions and phone calls. I'm hoping to get some pillowcases done today. And maybe a nap as I didn't rest well last night.

Have a wonderful Friday everyone :)

Good morning. Same old, same old for me so far this year. Ended the year very ill, (shoulda been in hosp) with a bad COPD exacerbation. Finally feeling decent again, then tripped over the doggie tie out at DD's and fell hard over a landscape timber. Tore the skin off the bottom of my leg really bad (think trip wire), bruised my rib terribly bad, and had other various skin tears on my extremities. Still dealing with all of that, and now have bronchitis, and they have me on the dreaded steroids and anti B's again. It has to get better Because my DD is having surgery on both of her feet. The will do one Wed, then 4 weeks later do the other one. She will be off work for 12 weeks. Thankfully her insurance pays 100% disability for 12 wks. I will have some help though, cuz some of her friends are amazing. Ok, enough of my woes and troubles. Love and hugs, and prayers for those in need.

Sounds like a number of you have trials and tribulations or know someone experiencing them. I hope, whatever the situation, that it resolves itself soon. Condolences to those who have lost someone they care about, and a get well message to all of you who suffer from illness. Tomorrow I'm off on that dreaded and very long flight to the Netherlands. Wish I could snap my fingers and be there. Just a few more things on my "to do" list before I feel prepared to leave. Please keep me in your prayers for a safe return.

We have Foggy and Damp with us this morning. Clear & Sunny are supposed to arrive by lunch, but Foggy is pretty thick and might not take the hint to leave very easily.
I have some grain to unload from the feed mill, then a quick run to the feed store as they have a sale on salt licks. After that boatload of fun, I must finish my outline for my presentation and make sure I have all of the handouts set. I'll send those off electronically and then I have two weeks to finish polishing the PowerPoint.
I am very excited to have the final edit on this. In the past I had to run it through a committee and the phrase, "Death by PowerPoint" was accurate. I really want it as a glorified slide projector, since photos help anchor ideas in peoples' minds.
I am also putting it in a logical, progressive order. Ahh. My OCD side will finally be happy with this and I won't feel so scattered while presenting. The other gal that helped with this presentation functioned much like a chickadee. She'd happily hop from one branch to another following an idea in her head. While she usually covered all of the material, it was scattered and often covered multiple times. She also bogged down the slides with text, lots of it. Then she would read you the slide. One sentence or a couple of bullet points and move on. The presenter should have enough knowledge to talk about the topic instead of reading it to you like a kindergarden story-hour.
OK. I'm done.

May you all find something that makes you happy today! Many prayers and blessings are being sent out to my quilty friends!
Hugs, Cathy

Just in from shovelling snow and setting down the salt on all the sidewalks. As my Grandpa used to say, "Keep the brass monkeys in today!" Brrrrr

Well, I can see many of my fellow travellers on life's road have hit some speed bumps, craters and soul jarring pits. :icon_hug: My thoughts and prayers are with you all.

Got fed up with myself just ruminating about everything, so I got off my backside and wandered to my sewing machine. Now a nice bit of work is coming along with some weird blocks that will eventually make a table runner. Colors are not quite what I expected, so not sure if I am going to love it or not. But I AM loving the 'zen' of that humming sewing machine. Showed my oldest daughter the new stuff on the Elf Group and she has even offered to help me!!! :icon_woohoo:

Everyone take care and be good to yourself.

Good Afternoon, LOL! Needless to say, I got a very late start, hit the deck and got all the chores/errands done, then hit the sewing room. Hubs took a rather long stay at the computer today as well........................FB may NOT recover from his 36 absence due to the Marx Bros. routine from the City! Oh well, better FB than me. It's been a good, but busy day, and dropping in quickly so Blondie won't think I'm a snubbin' her, ROFL! Gotta catch up on the goings on here, then off to cook dinner, but will return for my "evening" relaxation with the Forum. Hugs and Blessings to all, and especially those that need them!
