Good morning dear friends. I hope you are not all turkeyed out and that you all had a great time with family/friends.

I see snow flurries outside this morning. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Les & I are going to a show at the casino tonight, a Phil Collins tribute. We are also going to do some Christmas shopping while we are in the city. And sometime before that we are going to put his mother's lights up outside.

Yesterday was pretty well a bust as far as sewing goes. I did manage to get a new winter coat for $15 and I even left the one I was wearing there. We went to visit friends because there was football on. Had a great time and I brought back her sewing machine to try and fix. Seems to me like the problem is in the bobbin area. I was able to get it to sew properly but it still is not 100%.

I wish you all a good day. Safe travels everyone.

Good Morning Monique and Everyone,

We had a nice day yesterday and our food was good without being too much. We have enough leftovers for one more meal and maybe a sandwich and it will all be gone.

Today is the big kickoff of the holiday rush. I won't be shopping or making elaborate gifts this year...just staying close to home and hopefully doing a little baking and visiting with friends. Jeff is off work until Monday so I hope he will get a good rest. He's been through a lot of stress over my health lately. He's talking about putting up a Christmas tree and that might do us both good.

Wishing everyone a fantastic Friday.

Good Morning all! Hope you had a Blessed Thanksgiving!

We didn't have anything planned since it was just my sister, my 2 girls and I we decided to go out to eat. We debated where to go, checked out the options, but kept coming back to a local restaurant about a mile from my house. First let me say, my sister is a cardiac nurse - has been for the better part of her 33 year career. Oldest DD has a CNA license (not currently using it). You know the saying "right time, right place"? It just so happened we were seated near an elderly couple and their son. The Mom, who was very frail (93 yo) needed to go to the restroom. They passed by our table and they were struggling to keep her on her feet. I got up to let them by and Kathy realized she was in real trouble. She jumped up and came around and managed to get her down in my chair and then to the floor. Apparently her BP bottomed out and she had little, if any pulse. By this time another nurse seated at the table on the other side of them came to assist and they got her feet up in the air. Within seconds her color came back and she began responding! Good thing we were where we were - paramedics took 20 minutes to get there and then blew Kathy off, saying they believed she had a stroke! Uh,..Kathy has been nursing longer than either one of them have been alive! Anyway, I just know we were put where we were for a reason.

After that we came home DD went to bed - she had to open her store at the Mall at 6 last night and worked til 6 this morning. I cleaned a little, did some laundry and sewed a lot. I have all 19 rows to my I spy quilt put together and the first 6 sewn into a section. I will make the next section of 7 rows and the final 6 rows before sewing the three sections together.

Stay warm - it's a bit chilly here but I am enjoying it! Be safe if you have to go out - but if you don't - stay put and sew!

WOW - You are so right, Donna - you chose that restaurant for a very good reason. I hope it all turns out well for that lady.

Spent yesterday at Li'l Sis's place. Her hubby's relatives (knew a few of them) and one of Sis's boys and some grandkids along the way. Ate too much and came home early for a brief nap. I have some carrot cake left (there were 38 people there last count, and 18 desserts). So glad that I'm not a sweet eater.

Plans today include shuffling some dust around and throwing a couple loads of laundry at the washer. Other than that it will probably be quiet.

Sending warm air and warm wishes to our chilly friends - wherever you are. Looks like it will cover most of the northeast and the eastern seaboard - especially if the east starts on the far western side of the Mississippi. Stay safe!!

I'm up but not too sure about being ready for anything. We had a nice Thanksgiving day, I made the turkey and a dessert and DS#3 & GF made all the veggies, sides and many desserts- enough for 3 times as many people to be sure. We'll divvy the leftovers up and they'll take more than half back. DS#1 and DGD came for dessert and we all sat around talking while having coffee/tea and a small taste of each of the 7 desserts, never touched the ice cream in the freezer or the fruit bowl. Stuck candle in the pumpkin pie as Monday is DS#1's 59th Bday - where has all the time gone?

Don't think anyone would like big meals this morning or afternoon so for breakfast we'll have toasted leftover biscuits which are great spread with some leftover cranberry sauce, cranberry bread I made the other day and pumpkin muffins GF made. Will have bowl of fresh fruit too. Lunch could be some of the many leftover cut veggies, slices of cheese, many varieties of crackers and well as some fruits. DS & GF are going to his 30th high school reunion tonight and we'll be at my cousin's Turkey Soup and Sandwich party - another food orgie! We'll level off the foodie weekend by meeting DS#2 and DIL for lunch at local tavern.

No Black Friday or Black Weekend shopping for me, I have hard enough time getting around the stores during normal business hours so I don't need people pushing and shoving me around so I'll shop sometime mid week.

All in all we have much to be thankful for. Oh forgot to mention, Stella the Wonder dog was visiting also. She did get a few bits of turkey yesterday to celebrate with the rest of us. She's a rescue dog and thankful for a good home with DS#3 and kids.

We had a wonderful day yesterday with 2 sons and wives, DGD, husband and 2 year old Mary Heath. She's a trip! Smart, cute and well behaved and very loved! Had plenty of time to talk to GD about the coming baby. She's at least 3 weeks behind in development, but has grown quite well this past month. They are doing another ultrasound next week. So far she is active, and Jen is still hopeful she will be born alive.

I hadn't planned on doing a meal this year. I was going to go out. I found out that four of the Nit-Wits either had no where to go or were doing Thanksgiving the weekend before or after, so they were staying home. We decided to do a "Non-traditional" dinner. I had a Burger's Smokehouse (they are smoked not far from where I live) City Ham in the freezer. The City Ham is sugar cured so it isn't salty. I made scalloped potatoes. Diana made her creamy corn, my aunt Martha brought brandied yams, Miriam brought desserts. So we had a great dinner and no one worked themselves into the ground.

We fixed a plate and took it to Ines. She is home, but due to insurance rules as she is getting home health care she can't leave home except for doctors appointments. We spent some time with her. All in all it was a great day.

Good morning! Thanksgiving was nice here. We've got plenty of turkey and other leftovers so no cooking today. No Black Friday shopping unless I find a real bargain online. It's a good day to just relax!

Good Morning All,

Yesterday was just another day for me. We will be doing our Thanksgiving this weekend. I did go and get in that long line at Wal-mart to get a TV for my Father. Only had to wait for 2 hours and did end up with the 1hr guarantee for a 50 inch tv. The only reason I did it was for my Father there would be no way I would do it other wise. But as much as my parents have done for me through my life time it was the least I could do for them. There is no way I will be doing any other shopping this weekend. Other then that , that I did here.

So glad to hear others had a great holiday and wishing every one a safe weekend.

Donna, how wonderful you were there. Seems like it was meant to be!

Had a lovely day with the family. Just DH, DD, SIL and the grandbabies. I normally have 20 people here for T-Day, but this year it was just us. Very, very relaxing! Everything came out great, even the gluten free stuffing I made for SIL and the glutenfree apple pie. Made it with a gluten free graham cracker crust. Delish!

Today will be 81, but at nights it drops into the 30's. Tough on everybody, especially horses. This is the prime time for colicking. Water gets too cold so they don't drink it and then it gets hot and they haven't drunk enough water.

Glad to hear everyone had a great thanksgiving. There is much to be thankful for!

Hugs to all and prayers for them as need them.

It is freezing out and my neighbor is mowing his yard???????????????????????????

Same thing happened here too - but DH told him to mow it. They spent days on end building a fence to keep the dogs in and DH told him to mow it because of something to do with all the sawing and stuff all over the grass before the dogs walked all over it, I don't know. And, he did it about 10 at night - just turned on his flood light and mowed away. It was kind of funny.

I love these 'mini-vacations' you get when you work for a school! I did take Tuesday off and got all the leaves up at my dad's (think I mentioned that already - that's when I got in trouble for trying to burn them - well, she gave me a warning, she was nice). Wednesday was spent watching the snow and then shoveling it that evening. Yesterday we ate early and there were only the 3 of us so got lots of cleaning done. Today is another day of this and that and then the quilt room! Have lots to work on down there. I'm putting Saturday and Monday in the quilt room too. You can only clean so much when there is quilting to be done!

Have a great day everyone. I'm off to make another pot of coffee so I'll be 'right over there' and will pop back in later.

Hugs,

Good afternoon all! LOL! Very late start for the day, got up at ten, especially after all the cooking done yesterday. Was VERY hard not to order on M*s Black Friday post from Caleb yesterday evening......BUT, the LIST has been supplied to the kids and decided to get items that weren't on the list. Again, very hard to NOT order the WHOLE list!!!!! Ordering on the iPad is a pain, so called Customer Service, my goodness, what a pleasure to talk to Anna, what a sweetie pie! It is sooooooo nice to be greeted with stellar service and a cheerful demeanor! Today is an "I don't hafta if I don't wanna" kind of day, ran errands, sent Christmas cards, that kind of stuff. Am looking forward to just piddling in the sewing room. Hugs n Blessings to all, and especially those that need them! :D

Good Afternoon!!! A great relaxing day around here. Yesterday we had my folks over for a nice Thanksgiving Dinner. On the way home, they had planned on stopping at a Walmart to pickup a couple of Christmas gifts but after looking at the crowded parking lot decided not to. So I got the list and DH & I went to our local Walmart. We were able to get everything on the list and picked up some Christmas gifts for people on our list. Our Walmart did a couple of changes that made a huge difference in shopping this year. First, they kept the aisle clear of displays - the displays were on the side so it was much easier for traffic flow. Second, which came from headquarters was everything was wrapped in clear package wrap which made it easier for people to be sure they were in the right location for items and there was a map. One of the best deals for us was dh's socks which are normally about a $1 a pair, we got 14 pairs for under $10. Locally, the only incident that I heard was some lady had tried to take a camera early for one of the displays but the people made her put it back. I did see on a friends' facebook that in one store people were fighting over towels. All I can think is there is NOTHING in any store that is worth dying or getting hurt over.

I did get on MO* at midnight and do a little shopping. Today I am going to work on finishing the last Christmas table runner. The goal is to have the top together in between everyone wanting something.

Have a wonderful day everyone :)

I am still "full" from the day of feasting. It was just the three of us. A friend decided to go to their cousins instead of joining us. No problem.. we'll just have more goodies to eat.

I finally finished up the Quilts for the Abuse center after getting so many donated Orphan Blocks. (MY heartfelt thanks to all you lovely people here). I only had to purchase backing and batting. (that's quite a savings) There are 10 in all. different sizes- from full to lap. Still have the labels to do, but those I print out on my computer and hand sew on while watching tv at night.

Now I should have more time for fun stuff.. esp before Christmas. Making "gifties" for DD#2's co workers and our relatives. A little something to celebrate the season. A tradition I've carried on for years. Hand made tree ornaments.

Bob.. that is such a great way to spend the holiday..

donna.. Life has those moments when we know exactly why we are HERE.. Hugs to you and your family of nurses. (ME too. 3rd generation nurse and raised one)
I can't imagine mowing grass this time of year around here when the temps are at freezing. Ya'll are brave or just silly.
And no shopping the Black Sales for me... It just isn't worth the hassle or stress.

Hugs to all and please send me a smile or two.. I promise to share.

I enjoyed reading your stories. We don't do Thanks Giving over here in England although I do suspect it will catch on eventually. Black Friday has taken hold of us only in the last few years and there have been pictures of people fighting over items on the news. Sounds like a nightmare to me.
