View Full Version : Estate Sale Report

The TONS of yarn advertised at the estate sale turned out to be one medium tote full of acrylic. My daughter seems to be a 'purist' and prefers wools and natural fibers instead of man-made . . . so that was a bust.

I grabbed up several gallon-sized zip locks full of quilt blocks - probably enough to do four or five quilts or more. There are several bags that have already pieced 9 patch and several already pieced bow-ties. Unfortunately, many of the blocks in the other bags were double-knit and while I don't particularly like that fabric, I do believe I can get away with backing them with flannel and making some lap quilts for charity.

I am excited about the 9 patch and the bow-ties though - Oh, and there's one bag with hexagon pieces that have been hand-sewn into blocks about 8 inches. Think there's enough for a good-sized throw. They all just need to be put together.

My DD looked at me as I was paying and said (of course loud enough for EVERYONE to hear) "How many of those do you actually think you'll sew, Mom?" I didn't tell her that when she finished knitting all her thousands of skeins of yarn I'd be finished with all my proposed quilts. I'm a nice Momma!

Sounds like you found some good deals and had fun with your daughter so the day was well worth it. The blocks will be fun to sort and look at and plan new quilts. I really like the "bitten tongue club". Boy have I done that a bunch since our son got married. You know trying hard not to be the interferring MIL. Have a good time with all your new blocks Sandy.

Sandy, I need to follow you around for all the good deals you find!
And Shauna, I would've bought those dentures. I could use them on a halloween doll! LOL. Or a creepy santa . .

That is one thing I did not get a strong dose of from my mother, she loved to go to estate sales and garage sales and second hand stores and just plain junk stores, she thrived on it...to my father's despair.:icon_happy: I just don't have enough time sadly, but I love reading about the treasures others find.

As for the 'bitten tongue club', I am a reluctant member also, I much prefer to speak my mind which often gets me into trouble with people who are unappreciative of the truth. But sometimes voicing the obvious is just not worth the consequence of doing so. :(

I think I'm y member of the bitten tongue club, because I usually get me into trouble, because I speak or write before I think. But I prefer people who do so, because they are straightforward and usually no cowards!!!!!!!

I think we all belong to the bitten tongue club! At least some of the time. Love hearing your 'good deal" stories, Sandy! Isn't it great fun to find a deal, bargain or all around repurposing stuff????

Those are treasures indeed!!!! wouldn't mind having some of them. I never found blocks like that here in Luxembourg. If it doesn't rain tomorrow we might visit a flee market up north. Maybe with some luck I'll come across some fabrics, but sure no finished blocks. So keep your fingers crossed!

What a great find! And I should belong to the 'bitten tongue club' however, I usually say it before I catch myself. Once when my son was little I washed his mouth out with soap for sassing. I asked him why he didn't think about it before he was sassy mouth - he told me that 'it's in my head and then it comes down my throat and jumps around on my tongue and I have to get it off there - so then it comes out my mouth' ---- I think it is genetic and he got it from me!

Whoa Sandy what a find, like the bowtie blocks. Have fun with them and think of the rest of us when you're playing. LOL

tamsberg, that has got to best description and excuse I have ever heard for being sassy. Did you have a hard time keeping a straight face. I would have been running to another room so I could ROTFLMBO.
