View Full Version : My daughter Rae

I come to you today with a prayer request. My daughter Rae has been ill of late. Severe migraines, dizziness, horrible mood swings, severe anxiety, nausea,, and unrelenting pain. She went for a MRI last week and Friday we got the results. She has a cyst on the Pineal gland which is located in the center of the brain. They will be setting her up with a neurologist this week.

This is all I know at this point: Treatment is usually radiation or surgery. In 85 % of cases the cycst is benign. Radiation...we all know how hard that is on the body. Surgery; because of the location it can have a long recovery time due to some patients have to relearn to walk, talk etc. Needless to say she is terrified, as am I. Please pray for her. I just want to get into the right doctor and act on this. The danger is as pressure builds it can cause nerve damage to the eyes, hence loss of sight.

I will keep you posted on her condition. I'm enclosing her address in case any would like to drop her a line. I know this would mean the world to her. She certainly needs some uplifting, she is so scared. I wish I could have this instead of her.

Thank you all

My dear Liz. Of course prayers will be said. I can't imagine how scared all of you must be. We moms hurt so much for our babies (yes they will always be our babies), and wish we could take on their pain so they don't have to hurt. Hang in there hun, and know that our God is an awesome God.

Rae is 21 years old. I'm enclosing a picture taken Friday at the hair salon. She and I went and had a girls day last Friday. It's a side view, I'll try to post a pic where you can see her face later LOL. Thank you all for your kind words and prayers. You all truly can lift a person......simply knowing someone cares and understands helps.

Marilyn, I will certainly be praying for your daughter and your family. Please let me know what her first name is. Huggs to you.......I understand.

Leah.......Walhalla LOL. I live in Fair Play as well as Rae. I've often wished I had a quilting Pal locally. Maybe when things settle down a bit we could get together. That would be so fun.

Love and prayers to all,
Liz

I want to thank you all. Rae came literally running in the house last night when she got off work. She had the biggest smile and was misty eyed. She was so happy, she had received two cards in the mail from forum members. She was truly amazed that quote" total strangers really care about me". I told her yes, my forum ladies are a very special group. She said she had to run out and get some note cards so she can write back LOL. Again thank you.

We are still waiting to get the appointment at the neurologist. I spoke to the with their office yesterday and they had her referred last week for headaches so were not in a hurry to see her. I asked if they had a copy of the MRI and didn't our GP tell them she had a cyst on the pineal gland. The lady took one look at the MRI report and said she would get Rae in next week, but she would have to juggle the schedule and only give her 24 hours notice. So we sit with bated breathe waiting to see a doctor. I'm quite angry with our GP, he is the one who told us how serious this is, yet his staff didn't express urgency in the referral.

So keep praying please.

Love always,
Liz

Well we finally get to see a doctor. Rae has a appointment tomorrow morning. I'm so glad we will finally get some information, and hopefully an idea how they plan to treat this. Honestly, I expect this neurologist to refer us to a neurologist that specializes in this. At least we will be able to get something for her pain. Please keep praying for her.

Love,
Liz

Ok we saw a doctor yesterday. I'm truly not sure what I think. He says this cycst is not big enough, nor is it pressing on anything to cause her symptoms. Rae has had migraines since she was 12. That being said, Dr, thinks most of this is a chronic migraine. He prescribed a short round of steroids. They can knock out the migraine pattern. Also(which she has taken before) and gave her imitrex for the really bad migraines. He also suspects ADD which would explain the lack of concentration and forgetfulness, she is being sent to a specialist to determine if she truly has ADD. They will run another MRI in 6 months to see if the cyst has grown. I'm not sure I buy this, but the treatment for a cyst like this is radiation or brain surgery. So for now we will see if this brings her some relief. In the mean time, I got a copy of the MRI and am sending it to my son in law in Tacoma. He is in medical school and doing a internship at neurologist group. They said they would gladly take a look and give a second opinion on it. For now her symptoms continue, but we are hopeful this works. She really got upset at the doctors and told him what about this THING in my brain, he told her, Rae, this is not life threatening, but treating this is going to be a process. I pray he knows what he is talking about.

Thank you for all your prayers and the letters. You have truly touched my heart and Rae's.

Liz

Well I sure hope he is right...I mean he IS a specialist and should know right? It's a relief that you can get a second opinion though I am sure! And what an opinion! From someone who is being taught by the best! That will be a big relief I'm sure. I hope that she can feel better and that the new meds will help! (((HUGS))))

Liz, it sounds like a positive visit, if he is right. I hope and pray that the 2nd opinion confirms it.

My son takes Imitrex for his migraines - thankfully, they figured out some of his triggers and he has had very few in the last couple of years. He could take it at the first sign of one - he got the auras (I don't) and lay down for 20 minutes or so and then he could go back to class in high school. Before the Imitrex, he would have to come home and would miss a couple of days of school.

Breaking the cycle of the headaches will also help with the concentration and forgetfulness. When the pain never really completely goes away, you just aren't your usual self. Keeping all of you in my prayers.
