My favorite picture of Jim in the hospital...Jim with Blondie's quilt.jpg
The quilt came in the mail one day a couple of weeks ago. It was pieced by a member of the M*QC Comfort Guild and quilted by Blondie, who also made me a cute pin cushion. I don't know when I've been so touched, and Jim loves it! People in the hospital are amazed that my online friends would do something so kind for us. They just don't know quilters!
He is due to get out of ICU on January 1 when his insurance switches to Medicare. He had been on a Medicare replacement policy and they wouldn't pay for the acute rehab where he should be. We're blessed that the hospital has worked with us and have kept him in ICU so long. Today is the 46th day. Next Wednesday he will go to a rehab unit either in the hospital or one of the local nursing homes. He has regained some strength but still cannot sit or stand without being supported.
His trach is out but he is still unable to eat because he can't pass a swallow test. Hopefully that will happen soon; speech therapy works with him daily.
His kidney doctor thinks he will need to continue dialysis for the rest of his life. I hate that but we will learn to deal with it as lots of other people have.
I'm doing ok. I spent some time with family and friends this week and that helped. Some days it still feels overwhelming.
Thank you for your prayers, and a special thank you to the kind person who pieced Jim's quilt. You are an angel.
